I get up at 7:00 a.m. I get a shower and brush my teeth and go through my daily morning routine. I put on some clothes that look nice, but at the same time are comfortable to move around in. I don't want anything constricting me from giving the best performance I can in an hour.
I walk through the set till I get to Scott Gimple's office where I was told to meet him last night. I've been here for longer than a few days, I've taken some acting lessons from the instructors here, and have explored the set freely. The one thing that was still bothering me is that I didn't actually meet any of the stars yet like I was promised. I've seen hundreds of people rush by me, none of them being the cast. Every worker seems as if they just never stop.
I look to my right and I see two more buildings being constructed. I find that to be insane! They are building a fricken city for the show to take place in!
Distracted by everything going on around me, I walk into Scott's door and fall backwards. I look at myself and fling in pain for a moment but then get up. I brush my fingers under my nose, only to find that I have a nose bleed.
"Fan-fucking-tastic!"
I utter the words quietly enough so no one else hears me. I get up and open the door. Scott sees me. He is at his desk working like usual. He then starts to talk to me.
"I see you found the make-up room. Maybe today isn't the best day to be using the fake blood. Especially right before your audition."
I quickly explain myself so he knows that I'm taking this seriously.
"Sorry! I didn't... This isn't make-up."
"Oh I'm sorry. Excuse my assumption. It's just when you work at a place like this..."
I interrupt him. "You don't need to say you're sorry. I understand. Who can blame you?"
"Here's a tissue." He hands me a tissue box.
"Thank you."
"The bathroom is right over there. Feel free to wash off. By the way your audition is in five minutes so you might want to get ready fast."
"Oh... Okay!"
I run into the bathroom and clean my face at superhuman speed. I burst out the door excited for the audition.
Scott asks me, "You ready to change your life kid?"
To this I reply, "As ready as I'll ever be!"
"That's the spirit." Scott takes me outside and leads me to this building I've never been in before. It is a giant rectangle with a plain exterior. The inside is a whole different story. There are so many varied colors and designs. I've never seen anything like it. There is even some music playing in a room we are passing.
We walk for what feels like an hour. My legs are shaking and my throats getting dry. I start to feel a wave of heat hit me. Finally we get to our door.
The door says "Casting room." Scott moves aside so I can open the door. I walk in with Scott behind me but not for long. He goes to take a seat next to Greg Nicotero. Greg smiles at me and I approach them to shake both of their hands. I'm sure they can feel me shaking. Greg gives me a worried look.
"Don't worry kid you will do fine. Think of it like this; you already got a part in the show for sure. We just need to be how big we should go with you."
I nod my head to respond. Now it's Scott's turn to talk.
"See the script on the table by the wall over there? Grab it."
I pick it up and walk back to where I was previously standing.
"Good. You are doing a drama scene we had our script writers construct. Your partner will enter immediately after you say your first line. Both of your character have been friends for as long as you can remember, and now your friend is in the hospital dying. When I say go we start."
I look at both my judges with great fear. I'm beyond nervous. They literally need to invent a new word to describe what I'm feeling right now. I guess you could say petrified.
That's when I hear the word... "Go!"
I turn to face where my partner will be entering and say my first line.
"Daniel... Are you awake?"
A bed is pushed out of where my partner is making their entrance. The bed is supported by a holding with wheels. I see the actor is a guy but it's not clear to me who. I hear him moan in pain and turn his head to face me. There was no mistaking him. He had long brown hair and bright blue eyes. While he is lying down peaceful I felt as if I might pass out any second. He is now facing me and making eye contact with me. I'm making eye contact with Chandler Riggs.
