Dinner starts with Chandler's dad asking each of us how are days were. We all have a similar response. I sit there nervous. I'm just waiting for either his dad or his mom to bring up our relationship. I'm sure Chandler is just as anxious as I am. We both know the discussion is inevitable. I tap my feet rapidly. Chandler's mom looks to me. I think she feels bad for me. She can probably tell how nervous I am.
We are twenty minutes into dinner when she gives a fake cough looking at Chandler's dad. He looks at her understanding the signal. He looks back and forth between both Chandler and me before speaking.
"I need you both to listen to what we have to say before you two say anything."
He takes a pause to look at both of us.
"First, I would like to say I am very proud of you Chandler for having the courage to come out. I'm very proud of you son. I'm just disappointed you didn't come to either me or your mother before coming out. You should always know that we will be there for you no matter what. We love you son and we are happy for you. Second, we are glad to have you here Mason. You clearly make our son happy, so you make us happy. We are glad to let you stay in our house for however long it takes you to get on your feet. You will be treated as family while you are here. Third, while yes, we trust you, we still can't let either of you two be in each other's bedroom at the same time alone. If you look at it from our perspective I'm sure you will understand. Fourth, while Mason is here, Chandler, you will continue your chores, while Mason, you will be given weekly chores. Lastly, if we notice any bad decisions or changes made for the worst, we will have to kick you out Mason."
He sits still looking at us before asking a question.
"Any questions?"
Chandler looks as if he's about to speak but I speak before him.
"Thank you very much for your hospitality. I'm grateful that I have somewhere to stay. You all are very generous. I promise to not break any of those rules."
I ended up breaking every one of those rules. I continue to talk.
"If you have anything you want to ask me I am open to any questions."
Chandler's mom spoke now.
"We are glad to hear that. You are a well behaved young man. I'm sure we won't have any problems."
We finish our dinner and Chandler's mom gets up. Chandler gets my dish for me. I go to get up but I see Chandler's dad sitting still. He asks me to sit with him so I do. We sit for a moment of silence. Chandler's mom guides Chandler out of the room and Chandler's dad begins talking.
"I just want you to know that I like you. You are a good kid. Much better than Hana. You clearly make our son happy and that is priceless. We have plenty of money so don't ever worry about paying anything back. Thank you."
I sit there feeling shocked. I don't know what to say but talk anyway.
"Thank you so much sir. And don't take this offensively, but I will pay you back. Thank you for all you are doing for me."
Chandler's dad looks at me respectively. He stands up and holds out his hand. I stand up and reach out to meet his hand and we shake hands. I walk away smiling.
I walk upstairs and see Chandler standing in the hallway both of our rooms are in. He puts his hand on my waist and pulls me in tight. His tongue meets mine. We kiss for a while until we hear footsteps. We separate and rejoin again as he kisses me again. We separate for a final time and he goes in his room. Chandler's mom walks into the hallway. I speak first.
"Thank you for the dinner! It was delicious."
"Of course. There is no need to thank me. You helped me make it after all."
We stand there awkwardly for a moment. She quickly gives me a hug and walks into her room. I stand there smiling.
