Scott sat on the edge of the roof, hiding from his butler. He wanted to watch the sunset today, for the first time in weeks. He saw the sky light up with oranges and reds, purples and pinks. It was truly beautiful. He let his legs swing back and forth over the edge. Leaning back on his elbows.
"KING SCOTT" A man with dark brown hair ran out into the balcony, "THIS ISN'T FUNNY"
"I'm here, i'm here" Scott sighed, jumping the few feet down to the balcony, "What is it?"
"You have some paperwork that needs to be filled out, urgently!" The butler said fiddling with his fingers.
"Alright i'm coming"A few hours later Scott walked into his quarters sighing as he flipped on his bed. The paper was just complaints from the citizens about things, normal stuff. The chickens keep falling off the cliff. The carrots aren't growing because the neighbors dog jumps on the crops, things like that.
Scott suddenly bolted back upright smiling. "Rel" He muttered to himself. Hopping up and getting changed into darker clothing as to not attract attention. For the past week Scott had been meeting Rel in the tunnel. They had gone walking through the apiary, through the dark streets of town and then they would come back to the tunnel and talk. It wasn't the best place to hang out, but it was the only way they could avoid suspicion.
Scott walked up to a large painting of a stag with golden horns. He reached up and felt his head for his horns. They had gotten larger and pointier and more visible, however he rarely left the palace anymore, at least during the daytime.
He laid his fingers on three triangles hidden in the painting and slowly pushed inward. The painting creaked slightly before swinging outward to reveal a small wooden hallway with a ladder at one end. Scott walked down the hallway, his boots clicking on the wooden floors. The painting swung shut behind his and he could hear the lock click shut. He grabbed the rungs of the ladder and started to climb down.
When he got to the bottom of the ladder he saw a light down the tunnel. Scott's boots squished in the muddy gravel and make he walked towards the light, his smile getting wider every step he took. He rounded a corner to see Rel. They were sitting on a wooden platform that had been set up in the middle of the tunnel. Their hands resting in their lap and a content smile on their face.
"Hey Scott!" Rel said, moving their gaze from the ants on the ground, up, to lock eyes with Scott. "Where are we going tonight?". Scott sat down next to Rel, looking at them.
"I actually wanted to take you somewhere... new?" Scott said, breaking eye contact and fiddling with his fingers.
"Okay?" Rel said, their face changing from happiness to worry. "I-is everything okay?"
"Yeah! Yeah. It's fine it's just... never mind," Scott stood up offering his hand to Rel, "Let's go!".:():.
Rel jumped grabbing Scott's hand. He smiled slightly, squeezing their hand in his. The phantoms circled overhead, their screams echoing through the mountains. As they started to dive, Scott pulled a beautiful sword out of a sheath at his waist. It had a blade made of moonstone and a hilt made out of gold. The cyan gem in the hilt gleaned in the moonlight as Scott swung the sword up and lodged it in an incoming phantoms chest. It fell to the ground and he removed the sword form it.
Rel followed his lead, unsheathing their daggers and stabbing them both into a second phantom as it turned to run away with its looming (a looming is a group of phantoms). Rel walked up to the phantom pulling their daggers free of its chest. It's green eyes turned lifeless. They looked over at Scott who was picking the dead body up and throwing it down the side of the cliff.
"C'mon!" He said grabbing their hand. Rel froze. He was holding their hand. What the heck was happening. They shook their head as Scott turned around. "You alright?"
"Yeah i'm fine..." Rel stepped forward, "Let's go"
Scott walked up to the cliff, finding a loose stone he pushed it up, like a lever. There was grinding sound and the stone moved away to reveal a dark passage.
"Woah" Rel looked at the hole, "How did you do that?"
"Let's just say I have magical friends" Scott smirked before walking straight into the passage, "C'mon!"
Rel walked into the passage, letting the darkness consume them as the door slid shut behind them. They could hear Scott's footsteps up ahead, and they tried to follow them the best they could. They felt a warmth encompass their hand and they looked up to see Scott's eyes shining in the soft glow of his... antlers?
Scott's antlers had grown at an ungodly pace over the past month and Rel could see them curving out of his head with the occasional branch off. They were beautiful. They let off a soft golden glow in the darkness, reflecting off his eyes and making his look magical.
Rel shook their head, what was wrong with them today. Anyway, Scott encompassed Rel's hand with his own gently pulling them through the passageway. As they turned a sharp corner they had to squint their eyes as the light was very bright after being in a dark passageway for so long. Rel's jaw dropped, in front of them sat a large cavern lined with quartz and polished wood, and the most beautiful throne they had ever seen..:():.
A shadow moved across the trees, leaping from branch to branch in quick succession. It stopped on a tall tree, looking towards a glowing kingdom. A large palace sat on top of one of the mountains towering over the small village at the edge.
A shining grin appeared on its face. As it leapt from the tree it was standing in the the next tree over, and the next tree over from that one. Eventually making its way over to the edge of the cliff.
An evil laugh escaped its throat as it pulled a small bottle from its... cape? It walked up to a tall tower, slipping into the shadows and sneaking by the tired guards. The thing laid it's hands at its sides, palms facing down as a red mist appeared, propelling it upwards to the large crystal at the top of the tower. It uncorked the bottle, after landing on a window ledge, and slowly poured what seemed to be a red metallic fluid, onto the top of the crystal. It evaporated instantly, turning the top of the crystal red..:():.
The king laid on his bed staring at the ceiling, a cold sweat on his face.
What if she says no?
He thought, flipping over on his side to stare at the picture he had on his nightstand. The picture consisted of a beautiful girl, with light pink hair that was pulled back into a bun. She was wearing a glowing green dress and a silvery crown on her head. In her arms was a small pink axolotl with a tiny gold crown on its head. Next to the girl was a boy. He was slightly shorter than the girl and had messy brown hair that fell in his face, the green streak in his hair, messed up. He was smiling widely and seemed to be laughing, his gold crown crooked on his head. He wore a purple jacket and a white collared shirt that was unbuttoned at the top. He was resting his chin on the girl's shoulder, looking at the axolotl.
He smiled, I hope she says yesAN: You all probably know where this is going. This was more of a filler chapter to increase the relationship between Rel and Scott. If you have seen Empires (which i assume you have because...), you will know where Scott is taking Rel. I hope y'all are having a good day!
