"NO!" Rel gripped at the empty air as they saw Scott let go of their hand. "SCOTT!" He said that he loved them. He loved them. After a confession like that there was no way they were just letting him go. So they let go. The air whipped past their head as they maneuvered themselves into a slightly more controlled dive.
They hit Scott's back, gripping onto him and wrapping themselves tightly around him. Their legs wrapping around his waist, and their arms around his chest. They pressed their chest into his back and lay their head in the crook of his neck.
"I love you too, and I won't let you die" Rel felt a surge of energy enter their body, spreading from the tips of their fingers and washing over them until a sharp pain erupted in their back, they clutched Scott's back tighter, grunting in pain as they continued to plummet towards the ground.

Scott heard the sound of flesh ripping and a cry of pain from Rel. They had just confessed their love to him and now he was panicking. He had accepted his fate and now Rel was trying to save him. He flipped himself around the best he could. Moving Rel from his back to his chest and spreading his body out as flat as he could to slow their fall.
Rel was convulsing in shocks of pain and suddenly, in a burst of blood and membrane-like matter, two huge wings erupted from their back.

**\/\/** (Rel grew wings)

Rel felt knew muscles in their back that they had never used before. They looked down to see the ground approaching unsettlingly quickly. They instinctively tightened their grip on Scott, who was now looking at them in concern and wonder. In doing so, they tightened the newfound muscles in their wings, causing them to snap open. The wind caught in the white feathers as their fall slowed. Rel tried to gently tip their wings down, it ended with both Rel and Scott plummeting to the ground.
"Oof" Rel said, as they untangled themself from Scott, tripping on their wings as they tried to stand. "What in the name of Aeor...? oh dear" They looked up towards the top of the cliff that they had just fallen down. They had somehow fallen into a cave opening below the cliff and fell down farther than the cliff was tall.
"Rel? Are you... where are we?" Scott stood, brushing his hair out of his face. Rel and Scott were laying on the floor of an old ruined building. It seemed to have sunk into the ground completely. Both of the elves stood up and looked over the edge of the stone railing.
"Woah"
"Rel, do you think that you can get us down there?" Scott pointed to a hallway that was off to the side. It was overgrown completely with the strange corruption that he had seen when he visited the farmer. Rel visually measured the distance.
"I think so?" Rel grabbed tightly onto Scott's chest, slowly flapping their large wings to try and propel themselves into the air. It worked better than intended. "Oof, sorry" Rel exclaimed as they hit the rocky ceiling.
"No problem" Scott chuckled. Rel glided down to the strange hallway, landing just outside of the entrance. The duo silently made their way along the hallway. Rel pulled their wings as tightly to their body as they could, considering they had no idea how to work some of the muscles.
They walked along the long corridor, Rel gripping Scott's hand tightly in theirs. Eventually they arrived at a broken wooden door with rusted hinges. Scott pushed on it before throwing his shoulder onto it, successfully breaking the hinges. The door fell to reveal a small circular room with a stone lectern in the center.
"Wha...?" Rel started to walk around the room, poking every nook. "What are you doing?" Scott said,
"Looking for traps, there is no way that that was this easy" Scott chuckled.
"It looks like this used to be a great hall or council building, I doubt it would be trapped" Rel frowned and crossed their arms
   "Better safe than sorry"
"Alright, whatever you say" Scott walked up the couple of stairs, into the center of the room. He looked down at the book on the stand and blew some of the dust away from the cover. There in golden letters, it read: The Clash of the Great Stags. Scott looked up at Rel before starting to read aloud:

Millennia ago, the races of this world lived in peace. That was until the corruption spread, taking over the kingdoms it infected, wiping out entire civilizations leaving nothing but ruin and destruction in its wake, until the Great Gods of the lands came together to banish the corruption thus ending the darkness and saving the people who followed them. By doing so they expended almost all of their power forcing them to fall into deep slumbers, all except two, Aeor and Exor, the Great Stags.

For years, they ruled together keeping peace and harmony, but Exor grew jealous of his brother's notoriety as more people started to follow in his ways the more jealous Exor became. As the two grew apart, their followers did too, tearing apart communities that once lived together. Aeor and his followers believed in peace, equality, and preserving life while Exor believed that not all were equal and shouldn't be treated as such. His followers often held horrible sacrifices of the weaker people in their kingdoms before eventually being driven out by the followers of Aeor.

Banished from their lands, Exor and his followers set out into the world, conquering towns and cities. Burdened by the actions of his brother, Aeor set out to put a stop to the terror Exor was causing. Gathering almost all the strength he had left, he engaged in an intense battle with Exor. Fighting raged for days between the two gods, seriously injuring both. After a grueling battle, Aeor eventually overpowered Exor, and using the last of his power, imprisoned him and his followers deep within the mountain, never to hurt anyone again, or so Aeor thought.

Many years later and the gods of Old were nothing more than stories parents told their kids at night, like most thing time forgets. A couple of elves played in the outskirts of their kingdom before they stumbled across some old statues and ruins deep in the caves. Alinar remembered the stories their father told them of the past about the evil stag spirit, Exor, and how he was banished deep into the mountains by the mighty Aeor and tried to convince his brother, Conal to leave but Conal, being the more rebellious sibling, refused to listen and dove deeper into the caves. A great power seemed to be drawing him in, with a voice offering him great power and wealth if he helped free him. Years passed and Conal frequently visited the ruins, much of the protest of Alinar.

As time went on, the two brothers drifted apart. Conal became more violent, reclusive, and resentful, spending weeks deep in the caves. Alinar eventually joined the high council of his kingdom. The townsfolk no longer felt safe with Conal and his actions, banishing him from the lands. As the years passed, stories of a demon-possessed being that matched Conal's description flooded the city. People began going missing at an alarming rate. Eventually, through much sorrow, Alinar knew what he must do and set out one night to find his brother and stop him once and for all. After making his way down the caves, he found his brother surrounded by the remains of the missing people and strange symbols on the walls and the floor. Alinar no longer could see his brother but just the monster that he had become: Large demonic horns grew from his skull, dripping in corrupted energy. Seeing how his brother had been corrupted, Alinar called out to the mighty Aeor to seek help in banishing the corrupted version of his brother.

Battle once again broke out between two brothers, this time both champions of the Great Stags. After hours, Alinar with the power of Aeor once again defeated his brother. Knowing he couldn't just banish him underground again, Aeor channeled his power through Alinar and together they opened a portal to another land, forcing Conal and Exor into the Unknown, never to be seen again. As sadness began to overwhelm Alinar and offering some comfort, Aeor used the remains of his power to wipe the memories of everyone in the land. No one would remember the evil caused by his brother, Exor, or by his champion, Conal.

Life continued and Alinar set out to explore the world and meet new people in places. Upon reaching the end of his life, his soul now bonded with the great stag spirit of Aeor, would pass on to a new host. The prophecy says that when the world needs them Alinar's new being would be reminded of his past life and set forth to stop the corruption, plunging the world into an eternal winter of Exor and his newest champion were not defeated.

AN: Hey Y'all! I hope that you are having a great day! This is kind of a filler chapter while also not being a filler chapter at all. Is case you didn't catch what just happened. Scott does not have wings (like he does in the series) in this story Rel has the wings. They are the ones that take him most places later in the book (but mayyyybe not during the eternal winter phase 😉). Thank you to the Empires SMP Wiki (whomever wrote the article) for the word for word story of the stags. I was dreading having to go threw that episode and write it word for word. Love y'all!
