As the days started dragging by, I started to dread the festivities surrounding STH Academy. To be specific, I dreaded the Masquerade Event, where everyone dresses in a disguise. I chose to dress as a plague doctor, hoping that nobody else had that idea. I have yet to see Sonic in any plague doctor garb, so I don't have to worry too much about him taking that idea. I could sense the change in the atmosphere. I'm not the only person thinking about the festivities. Sonic seemed to be in high spirits, despite appearing to be kind of tired. His green eyes were now a dulled color, and his cobalt spines looked like they were getting longer.
I kept trying to convince Sonic to get some rest since I was convinced that he was pulling all nighters, but he brushed me off every single time. "Alison, I am fine. I've been sleeping quite well. Leave me be." He always told me briskly, gently pushing me away when I try to pry. I'm starting to think that Sonic is hiding something. Thalia, my dearest little daughter, always asks about how Sonic was doing. I never have a good answer. (Yes, I did have five children, but that is not a story for in here) I have a feeling that Sonic might be up to no good since his gaze always shifts to me and his grin appeared hungrier each time.
But anyways, Tina had been silent. Even Ben is not acknowledging my existence (he usually lets me know that he thinks about me by shoving me down the stairs, pushing me, crushing me against a wall, or something painful). That raised alarm bells, but I kept on my guard. I just did my schoolwork in Sonic's study only out of fear of what would happen if I tried to do my schoolwork alone. At first, Sonic would ask, "Alison, what are you here for?" After a while, though, Sonic didn't ask anymore because I think that he knew where my head was at.
One afternoon, I finished my homework and told Sonic to rest as usual. Sonic guided me away, stating, "Quit worrying." Thankfully, I managed to sneak a camera into Sonic's bedroom just for one night, disproving my theory that Sonic was pulling an all night stunt. Unfortunately, it gave me zero clues on what was going on with Headmaster Sonic. After leaving, I headed down to the cafeteria.
That was a big mistake, since I felt Ben shove me against the wall. "Ow! Fuck!" I snarled, trying to break loose.
I hear Tina's ugly voice sneer, "Well, dumbfuck. You think I would not notice Sonic favoring you?"
I struggled, trying to kick and buck. Ben twisted my arm painfully, causing me to cry out. "Well, too bad you won't make the cut. You're nothing short of stupid. Why would Sonic keep you?"
I tried rationalizing, "Because-!"
Tina interrupting, "Because you are a waste of his time! Your hair looks stupid! I'm going to give you a haircut!" Then I hear something snipping dangerously close to my head. I screamed at the top of my lungs, hoping Sonic would hear. Thankfully, my hair got lighter. Sadly, I think that Tina was just getting started. "You look even stupider!" She giggled gleefully as she cut more of my curly hair.
Tina would have continued if Professor Silver and Professor Amy didn't interfere. I hear another snip, then I heard a funny sound. It kind of sounded like Piko-piko! Then I hear a thud. "Tina! I'm disappointed in you! I thought you would be friends with Ali!" I hear someone yelled. I turned to see a bright pink hedgehog wielding a big ass hammer. I knew that it was Professor Amy, my favorite teacher. "As my daughter, I'm going to have to punish you!" Amy snarled, her green eyes blazing.
Silver held Ben back with his green hocus pocus shit. "Alison! Are you okay!?" Silver yelled, his gold eyes gleaming as he pinned Ben against a wall.
"I... I think so?" I stumbled, then I ran my hand through my hair. It felt instantly fluffier, and I knew exactly what she did. "Shit. Tina cut my fucking hair!" I exclaimed, shivering. I was trembling with rage at this point.
"What's going on!?" Sonic's voice cut through the drama like a knife.
Everyone was silent, except me. "TINA CUT MY FUCKING HAIR!" I screamed at the top of my lungs, holding locks of my hair in my hands. My face felt as if it was going to burst into flame, and I felt ready to hit somebody since I was so angry and embarrassed. I could feel the tears pouring down my face, so I covered my face and ran towards the library. I was seeing red as I ran down the halls. No! That bitch cut my hair! I thought, choking back a sob.
I searched around for a good book, trying to hide my tears. I felt angry and hurt. But to be honest, it felt nice having less weight on my head. "Alison?" Sonic's voice was close by, but I was too heartbroken to hear. I felt a hand grab me gently, and I flinched. I turned towards the hand's owner, realizing that it was Sonic. I hastily wiped my eyes, ashamed that he saw me break like that. "Are you okay?" Sonic asked, keeping his voice low. I nodded, getting a good idea at how light and springy my head really is.
"It feels weird having short hair, Sonic- I mean, Father." I admitted, surprised at how much tension was relieved from my hair.
Sonic chuckled, ruffling my hair. "Hey Al, can I tell you something?"
"Shoot." I waited for Sonic to tease me.
"You look cute with short hair. It was not right of Tina to do so, and she cut your hair crookedly, but you still look cute." Sonic stated. I was kind of shocked, since Sonic never compliments a student. "Alison?"
"What?" I asked, wondering what kind of surprise Sonic has up his glove cuff.
"Can I play with your hair?" He blurted, grinning crookedly.
"No." I teased.
"Please?" He gave the head tilt and the smile, which I'm unfortunately a sucker for. I bet you are wondering what the hell I meant by the head tilt and the smile. Basically, Sonic would cock his head to one side and smile wide enough to have me see his teeth. He knows that I'm a bit of a sucker for that, so I caved in.
"You may fluff the hair... for five seconds." I purred teasingly, hoping that he didn't take it literally. I yelped as he cornered me on a couch and started running his gloved fingertips through my hair. I was a little startled, so I whispered, "Sonic... what are you doing, you fucking hedgehog?"
"Getting you in the right position. Watch your mouth." Sonic told me, and I admired the fact that he was being honest with me while scolding me in the same breath. I started purring silently, then my purr got louder as he massaged my now fluffy hair.
I dozed off, but was almost awake when I heard Rouge ask, "Big blue... what are you doing?"
"Fluffing her hair." Sonic's reply was kind of baited, as if he was waiting to hear something gross coming from Rouge.
"Do you know how long you've been like this?" I hear that white bat ask sort of seductively.
"I don't know. She hadn't moved for the last hour. I can't tell if she's asleep or dead, and I don't really have the heart to move her after what she had been through." Sonic replied.
I snuggled closer. To be honest, Sonic's peach body is really warm. I murmur, "I heard that, Rouge." I think that Rouge was startled, since I felt a slight breeze. "Want me to move, Sonic?" I asked, realizing that I might be breaking curfew.
"Actually, Alison, you need to eat. I'm certain that you are hungry." Sonic pointed out. The minute Sonic pointed that out, I heard my stomach rumble. I felt embarrassed until Sonic reassured me, "Go eat, darling."
I wriggled out of his grip and walked out to the cafeteria. I ate pepperoni bread (a comfort food), and I noted that everyone was staring at me. I only felt shame as I kept eating, that was, until Charlie exclaimed, "My god, Ali! You are so pretty with short hair." Then everyone started complimenting me. I heard that my hair is now "bold, exciting" and the extra bonus had to be that it is much easier to maintain.
