JENNIE
We ditched the car after I totally crashed it into that fire hydrant and made our way on foot. "Sorry I broke your car," I apologized as we entered a dark building that I had the access code to.
"Yeah, don't worry," Lisa replied from behind me. "We'll call a tow truck or some-" Lisa stopped talking immediately after I turned on the light in the hallway we were in. She looked around the walls at the hanging plaques from multiple different musical artists.
I held my hand up to the sign on the wall with the name of the building, "Welcome to..."
"Electric Lady Studios," Lisa finished. "Built by Jimi Hendrix in 1970." She turned around to face me and I chuckled. "What? Do you have any idea who recorded here? Led Zeppelin? AC/DC? The Rolling Stones?"
I just stood there smiling and nodding to her.
"David Bowie?" she continues and I just nod again. Lisa looks around again in awe. "Your dad owns this place?" I simply nod again.
"Is he this man?" Lisa points to photos on the wall, my dad sitting next to some kind of recording artist in every photo.
"Yeah."
"Wow. So, what is he, like a former hippie, current yuppie spoon-feeding the masses the same old garbage?" I just stared at her. "Stop me at any time," Lisa added.
I held my arms out to my side before pointing to her. "Yes and I'm gonna use that in my graduation speech. That's, like, amazing."
"Cool. Good," Lisa replied as her gaze was still stuck to all the photos and plaques on the wall.
I wrapped my arm around Lisa's and guided her farther into the building. "Here, come on."
I lead Lisa to the main part of the studio with all the equipment and the recording booth. Lisa's in awe when she walks in, taking in all the pieces of equipment without actually touching it. I stand by the doorway and just watch her as she takes it all in.
She eventually makes it to a Fender Stratocaster guitar before she looks over at me for the first time since she walked in. "I'm gonna throw up."
A laugh leaves my lips before I tell her, "Well, don't throw up on the Strat. Please."
"Yeah, I'll try not to," Lisa replies as her eyes divert back to the guitar in front of her. "Can I pick this up?"
"Yeah."
She slowly picks up the guitar and puts the guitar strap over her shoulder. "It's left-handed," she realizes as she switches the way the strap is on her shoulder so the guitar can be held correctly. Lisa's fingers run over the guitar strums and she looks back to me again. "It's like playing for the first time."
I laughed lightly as I decided to take some further steps into the room finally, walking closer to where Lisa is standing.
"Is this the job that you have lined up?"
My head tilted to the side as I glanced around the room, "It's mine if I want it, yeah."
Lisa looks at me like I'm crazy. "How could you not want this?"
"I don't know. I love music, you know what I mean? But, I feel like if I work in it in here I might not love it the same way anymore." Lisa shakes her head slightly like she can't believe what I just said. "I loved your mixes, by the way," I add after a few seconds of silence.
She looks over at me again and a small grin crosses her lips. "You heard those?"
"I heard one. Or seven," I look up as if to think of how many of Lisa's mixes I actually have. "Yeah, I have seven of them. I knew you liked Where's Fluffy before I asked."
