Takes place a few weeks before the last episode
Karma Akabane is a lucky, lucky man.
Because he’s wrapped around the finger of Nagisa Shoita.
Nagisa is all things nice, Karma thinks.
Sugar, spice. He’s the ray of hope beyond despair. So yes. Karma is very lucky. The luckiest man alive.
“You’re beautiful,” Nagisa whispers gently, the words rolling off his tongue like molasses, sweet, sweet molasses.
Karma laughs breathily, because Nagisa couldn’t possibly think that. “No, I’m not.” You’re the pinnacle of beauty, not me.
Nagisa runs his warm fingers through Karma’s hair. He strokes Karma’s head like a mother would and pulls Karma flush against his chest. “Yes, you are.”
Karma wraps his arms around Nagisa’s small but charmingly cute body, hugging him closer. He can feel the raps of Nagisa’s heart beating against his ribcage.
“I’m in love with you,” Nagisa states, as if it were the most obvious thing in the world.
It was.
Karma’s eyes slowly flutter shut, burying his head into the soft fabric of Nagisa’s oversized sweater.
He hums a tune neither of them recognize, made up on a whim.
“What will we be like in the future?” Nagisa asks. His hands come to cradle Karma’s head, hugging him.
His thin fingers dance along Karma’s jawline, tickling the other boy.
“I’m not sure,” Karma admits hesitantly, placing a palm over Nagisa’s.
He strokes the heated limb gently, carefully, as if he were petting a cat. “What do you think will happen in the future?”
“Every time I think about the future, all I see is you. It’s always you.” Nagisa feels stinging tears pricking at his eyes, but bothers none to wipe them away.
He’s comfortable enough to cry in front of Karma, and it’s nothing negative about the wetness pooling this time.
It’s love. Foolish, young love. Burning bright and passionately, eternally lit for those who dare.
Nagisa soft hands cup Karma’s cheeks.
“I want it to always be like this,” Nagisa murmurs after some time. His hands stroke Karma’s mop of hair, gently palming through the locks.
“I love you. Everything about you. Anything and everything.”
The smooth fingers glide down his face, tracing the discolored scar tissue from years ago. “I love this,” Nagisa says firmly. He knows the story behind the oddly- colored mark, the deep-rooted resentment. And still, Nagisa doesn’t mind it.
He traces Karma’s comical red brows. “This.” Although others thought it was funny, Nagisa didn’t he thought Karma’s eyebrows were cute, amongst other things.
A single finger taps Karma’s nose. “This too.”
Nagisa’s finger glides around Karma’s lips, tickling his skin. “I love this.” A well- known fact that Nagisa’s own lips hold the feeling mutually. His full hand cups Karma’s face. “You’re so pretty. You’re ethereal.”
Karma laughs again, and Nagisa is completely captivated. He has no idea how many times he can fall in love with this boy, over and over again.
It’s wonderful. Truly, truly wonderful.
“I love you. You’re brilliant, you’re witty,”
Nagisa holds up a finger for each word.“You’re intelligent, you’re caring, you’re so, so strong.”
Nagisa leans down and kisses the top of Karma’s head.“Karma,” he whispers, his tone implying he has a question.
Karma hands dance along Nagisa’s clothed back, tracing semi-perfect circles into the cloth. “Yes?”
“Will you stay with me forever?” His voice is so gentle, so serene and precious, it makes Karma want to protect him forever.
Karma is silent for a few moments as he lightly taps his fingers against Nagisa’s shoulders.
“Yes,” Karma finally responds, without any indication he was lying. “Always. I’ll always be here for you.”
I’ll hold you like this for however long you want. I’ll embrace you as long as it makes you happy. I’ll stay here with you until our time is up. I’ll be here until we‘re all that’s left, until we fade away together and become one.
A hot tear rolls down Nagisa’s cheek.
“I’ll be with you, thick and thin, no matter how cheesy this may get. I can’t ever see myself getting sick of you. You’re so precious to me.”
Nagisa lets a breathy sob free. His hands tangle themselves in his’s shirt as he slots his head next to his, fitting them together like the final puzzle piece.
“I love you,” Nagisa says, voice full of certainty. “I love you. I love you. I love you. I love you.” He repeats it until he’s out of breath, because it was true. He smiles warmly. “You’ll always be here?”
Karma plants a soft kiss on Nagisa’s cheek.
“I’ll stay until we become one.”
And there was no doubt he would.
