Tessa's POV:
"Robert? Hey!" I utter in surprise.
Why are you here right now? I wanted to call and spent the night with Hardin on the phone. He must be waiting for me."Hey! I'm sorry to disturb you at this late." He tells, looking up at the towel wrapping around my hair.
"No, it's okay." I assure him. "Wanna come in?" I open the door widely and gesture from him to come in.
"Yeah, sure," he walks in and I close the door behind us.
"Is something wrong?" I ask as we move our way to the living room.
"Yeah actually. Nothing serious though but I need a favor from you," he puts his hands inside his coat's pocket and sways on his heels.
"Okay. So what kind of favor?" I cross my arms against my chest and wait for him to speak.
"I thought I had my apartment's key but apparently I didn't and I locked myself out. Kelsey was always there to unlock the door whenever I forget my keys but today as you know she's at her grandma's place. Hence there is no one to open it and I don't have any other place live, so...," He explains. "Can I stay the night in here?" He asks timidly.
"I...," what should I say?
"Only for one night, I'll crash on the couch or even on the floor if you want me to." He points out at the rug.
"No no no. You don't have to sleep on the cold floor, you can have the couch." I tell him. He is very good friend of mine so I can do the least for him and it's nothing big he's asking for.
"Thanks. Hope Landon and Nora didn't mind if I stay, I didn't mean to intrude at their place without asking. I'll thanks them in morning, I'd do it now but it's late, they must be sleeping." He tells looking at their bedroom's door.
"Oh. They're not here though, they went out with her family for the dinner and going to stay the night at her family's mansion so you didn't bother them and also they won't mind. They'd be glad that they help their friend in times they needed," I smile at him.
"I think I did ruin your plans though," he says, guilty.
Yes you did a little, instead of saying that I tell, "No, you didn't. I was just about to go to bed, I don't have any crazy night plans. That's not me," I move my hands in a comical way in the air.
"Then that's a relief," pulling his hand from his pocket, he stocks across his forehead, "Phew!"
"You should hang your coat on the stand here and make yourself comfortable," I direct my finger at the coat hanger in the hallway. "You want anything to drink or eat?" I ask as he walks towards the stand.
"No, not now," he says and puts his coat on the hook.
"Okay, so if you need anything later on you can have it from the fridge or just call after me, I'll be at my room," grabbing the remote from the teapoy, "Here," I throw at him and he catches it. "You could watch television, if you want."
"Okay," he says and sits down on the couch the moment I turn away to go into my room. As soon as I get in, I shut the door and grab my phone to call Hardin back. I turn on the power button but only to see the black screen.
Are freaking kidding me! You have to die right now. Shitty phone. Argh!
I plug the dead thing into the charger and lie down on my bed.
Few minutes later, I hear dull sound of explosion coming from the television in the living room and I remember that I didn't gave Robert a blanket. Therefore, getting up I remove the towel from my hair and brush my wet hair with my fingers before grabbing a blanket from my closet. I open my door and go into the living room with a thick coverings and a pillow in my hands.
"Oh, sorry for the volume. It was already high when I turn the TV on," Robert apologizes, when he sees me.
"Oh, no problem. I just came here to give you a pillow and something to cover yourself, it's cold so you might needed," I place the pile on the couch.
"Thanks. Do you wanna watch anything?" He asks me.
"No, I'm pretty tired. But next for sure though. Good night." I say and turn away.
"Good night Tessa," he smiles and watch me until I get inside my room again. I switch my lights off and go back to bed with my e-reader and the sleep comes after reading for an hour and a half.
...
I wake up by something tapping sound, opening my eyes, I search for the sound and it's from a bird pecking on my uncovered glass window.
I've read somewhere in the article that when a bird knocks on your window with his beak, it could mean a message from someone, mostly someone that is very dear to you. So is this some kind of signal to me?
I get up and walk over to the window and hit my nails where the bird is hitting her beak. In surprise she flew away and I move over to my nightstand to get my phone. I press the power button but the black screen doesn't turn on. What the hell? My eyes goes to the power outlet and the switch to the charge is, off.
Are fucking kidding! How stupid I'm to forget to click the freaking switch?
Now this time I click the stupid shit switch on and plug the charger again into the death thing.
I hope Hardin wasn't up the whole night waiting for me to call him back. It's not my fault, though it's my fault that I forget to switch the damn thing on but it's the phone's fault having low battery life.
The nightstand clock says it's 10:55, I've only thirty-five for my today's work to start and 15 minutes to get ready, so I go out and into the living room, where Robert is asleep on the couch. He looks relaxed, I hope the couch is comfortable for him. I make my way to the kitchen to make some coffee. Putting the coffee to the machine I wait, brush my teeth and wash my face in between time quickly, hearing the coffee machine beeping, I put the mug below the nozzle and the hot black liquid filled the mug and I lift it up to my nose and sniff the aroma before taking a sip.
I almost spill the coffee when I turn around to see Robert at the other side of the counter, "Holy crap, you scared me," I put the mug down on the counter.
"Sorry," he says, his voice is sleepy and it's kinda cute.
"Want coffee?" I pour him one before he could answers.
"Sure," handing to him, he takes a sip and puts it down before ruffles with his blonde. He looks adorable, sleepy and charming mixed together with his dozy blue eyes and uncombed hair.
"Did you sleep well?" I drink my hot black liquid.
"Yeah, actually." He stretches his arm.
"Good, I should go and get ready for my shift," I tell him and finish off my coffee.
"I've to go and find some picklock who could get me inside my apartment too," he nods.
I get ready and we both leave. When I'm half-way to the restaurant, I remember that I don't have my phone, I'd go back and grab it but I'm already late, so I leave it. Robert's todays shift is at five so he heads towards his apartment after he walked me at the restaurant.
