Revised Version: UNSPOKEN WORDS.
Jordan
West Malibu
"So you're leaving California to follow your girlfriend Katie to New York? Is that what you're saying correct?"
Warren inquired under furrowed brows leaning against the railing of his beachfront patio. In all the years I've known Warren I have only spent a handful of times at his secluded beach house. Memories from my past lived in the walls of this house, memories I haven't confronted until now.
My mind drifted to the possibility of seeing her again, her face alone triggered shock waves down my spine turning my feet cold and throat dry. Now that Katie has officially been recruited into the same organization, the chances of running into her again increased exponentially.
Part of me wanted to curse in frustration due to the fact I wasn't ready to see Tiana again yet my body roared in anticipation. I told Katie about a particular ex of mine but I didn't know how to tell her who it was. According to Katie, she admired Tiana and looked up to her for inspiration during the beginning days of her career.
"Yeah Katie and I have made an agreement and I'm sticking by her" I replied honestly.
"You do realize with this drastic transition it's going to require you to be commuting from the east to the west at least once a month?" Warren carefully reminded me about my career obligations as I shook my head in acknowledgement. "It's a compromise I'm willing to accept. Listen I love Katie and I believe with this move will propel us into taking the next step in our relationship".
"Ah so it's getting serious..." A peak of interest displayed upon Warren's face. "I guess you could say that" A boyish chuckle quivered through my lips as I once again felt like a teenage boy.
Warren shook his head in approval heading towards the bar. "I've known and managed you for a little over six years and you know you are much more than a client to me, hell I even consider you my son sometimes. I trust in your ability to make thorough yet concise decisions regarding your career and personal life. It's apparent you have serious intentions for Katie and I wish you two well".
"Thank you Warren, I needed to hear that coming from you especially" I smiled warmly at him as he cracked open two ice cold coronas handing one over. Warren waved me off as he took a swig of his drink. "Don't be surprised when the media goes crazy on you two with this move. Oh and I also expect a wedding invitation by next fall"
I nearly choked on my beer at Warren's last comment hearing him snicker off to the side.
The topic of marriage hasn't been brought up between Katie and I, but I knew Katie wanted to get married someday so the discussion would be inevitable sooner or later. During my angsty teen years I'd never thought I'd be the marrying type believing marriage was a government contract tying down two idiots and that true love is a false ideology portrayed by society in attempt to capture people into a façade of romantic happiness.
That all changed when I met Tiana of course. As heartbroken as I was because of her, I don't regret what we had because who knows where and what kind of person I would have became if it wasn't for Tiana..
Together Warren and I kicked back watching the mid-afternoon sun glisten on the pacific waters.
"YOOO what's poppin everybody!" Felix yelled earning a slap to the chest from Kenzie as the duo entered the beach house. "Can you shut the hell up!" She scolded him as if he were a little child, turning to Warren and I with a smile.
