The blue light approached quickly. Much quicker than Pathfinder expected, and from the complete wrong direction.
A feeling of dread settled over her scales.
"It's supposed to come from the west!" Starwalker exclaimed, voicing Pathfinder's thoughts as he burst into a flurry of anxious movement. While he scrambled around the tower, Constellation squinted out the window with a talon extended in her co-worker's direction.
The dragon seemed to find what he needed, racing back to give the object to Constellation. The dragoness lifted it to her eye, pulling on one end and extending the gold contraption. It was a spyglass.
"What do you see?" Pathfinder asked, looking between the approaching object and Constellation.
The astronomer gasped, her talons drooping, before quickly lifting the spyglass again. Pathfinder tried to see what she saw, but all she could make out of... whatever it was, was a blue light rapidly approaching. The 'comet' was now soaring over the distant shapes of the jagged mountains that bordered the Night Kingdom.
"Where did Foresight and Hindsight go!?" Constellation asked, looking at Pathfinder with wide eyes.
As if I know, she thought angrily. "I don't know, I think they left. I'm worried about the 'comet'."
"Yes, someone has to warn the tribe!" Constellation left the spyglass on the window sill, taking a running leap out and gliding away to the main body of the palace. Her frantic aura unnerved Pathfinder. Did her nervousness come from what she had seen?
Starwalker came up beside her, taking the discarded spyglass. He aimed it at the comet and stilled.
"What? What is it?" Pathfinder asked, her voice reflecting the mounting nervousness she felt.
"See for yourself," Starwalker said in a hollow voice before disappearing after Constellation.
Pathfinder fumbled to hold the spyglass, her talons shaking as she lifted it. As she raised it, she faltered. What is it that they saw that made them so scared? Trying to shake off the fear, Pathfinder shivered and lifted the device to her right eye, squinting her left. It can't be that bad.
But, as she caught a glimpse of what was hidden in the blue flames, her arms became limp. Her mind swam in confusion... How is this possible?
The Blue Comet flew towards the city, seemingly growing faster as it neared. Pathfinder could only watch, numbed, as dragons poured out of the palace and tried to fly to the ravines to evacuate them. The NightWings were laughably slow when compared to The Comet.
They'll never make it in time, Pathfinder thought. At the speed The Blue Comet was moving, it would reach the ravines before they even came close. As she predicted, The Blue Comet swooped low, shooting towards the largest ravine closest to the Palace.
Pathfinder froze. As The Blue Comet disappeared behind the cliffs, a glow the same colour as its fire illuminated the ravine. Arcs of smoke and flame stretched towards the stars, and The Blue Comet flew from one end of the ravine to the other by the time Pathfinder was in the air and winging toward it.
LIGHTCATCHER!

I was stupid to think Mother would ever appreciate my talents, Lightcatcher thought bitterly as she flew away from the cave. She could hear Pathfinder on the balcony, calling out to her, but she swooped lower and merged with the shadows. She was going to the one place she felt at home.
