Chapter 7

I didn't leave jaspers side. Not once.

We collected ourselves got octavia's wound dressed and herself dressed for that matter.

Gathered our things and went once again on our journey to mount weather.

Octavia was sore, her wound while not fatal had taken a lot out of her. she'd lost a mild amount of blood, but the strain from trying to fight that thing off had her exhausted. So it was decided that we would rest for the night.

we found ourselves a nice little spot and dropped to the ground.

Monty stayed close to jasper, but I stayed a little closer. He leaned up against a tree and i slid down beside him.

He smirked and looked over at me as I settled into my spot.

"I don't need you to be my 24 hour nurse you know.. I'm fine!" he lifted up his arms to show me. "see no blood no wounds i'm fine."  I pursed my lips at him as I grabbed his chin and pulled his face to the side quickly but gently.

"That, is blood." I said pointedly nodding towards the slight cut on the right side of his forehead, right at his hairline.

I then let go of his chin and grabbed his wrist lifting up left his arm. "and this is a bruise!" it was right on his elbow all purple and yellow and mean.

"No one's ever died from a scratch and a bruise gem... I'm fine! really!"

I sighed defeated. "ok, so you're fine. I just want to make sure you stay that way." I reply with a certain Childlike vulnerability.

His joking smile faded a little as he realized the seriousness behind my tone. and the worry behind my actions.

and then he decided to be kind and humor me allowing me to stay beside him and never ever leave.

he wrapped an arm around my shoulders and I lay my head on his chest.

It was comfortable, and warm. I could sleep on dirt, as long as I had a jasper pillow.

and with my ear pressed against him, and his heartbeat echoing in my head, reminding me that he was still here, and i was still ok I fell asleep without even meaning to.

and though it felt like no time had passed, My eyes flitted open, what felt like seconds later only to be met with darkness instead of fading sunlight.

I blinked to clear my blurry eyes from sleep. And found myself laying on the chest of a peacefully sleeping friend.

His arm was wrapped around my shoulders as i was neatly folded into him.

I noticed more than that. this darkness was not so endless as earth nights should be, without any man-made lighting.
