Chapter Four

I turned away from the guard and his sister’s conversation.

With hands in my jacket pockets I took in the sight before me.

Clarke crouching over Wells’ leg, tending to his wounds.

He winced as she turned his ankle gently. Other than that he seemed pretty content to just have her babying him.

I watched what she was doing, out of purely medical concern.

“It’s sprained.” I mumbled to them.

Clarke looked up surprised that I’d spoken to her.

“What?” she breathed. Though I think it was more because she didn’t know why I was talking to her, than actually not understanding what I’d said.

I sighed and deiced to explain anyways.

“It’s a sprain.” I repeated walking forward and crouching down before him grabbing His foot in my hands a little too roughly.

He gasped and reached out for it.

I looked up at him with a warning glance. “Be still.” I instructed coolly.

He eyed me wearily but listened and relaxed into the side of the drop ship.

I turned it just slightly feeling how it pulled. The muscles were tight. And his face contorted into an expression of pain with even the slightest movement.

I let go of his foot and sat back on my knees.

“A few of the ligaments in your ankle were stretched when you fell back like that. You have a mild sprain.”

He looked at me like ‘speak English please’

Boy was dumb, because it wasn’t all that complicated… lets be serious! Your seventeen and you don’t know what a ligament is? Really?

I sighed and rolled my eyes. “It’s not broken, you’ll be back on your feet in no time. Just make sure you rest, and if you can find something cool to put over it, it should bring down the swelling.”  I explained feeling back in my element. As I looked at his leg. He wasn’t Wells… He was just another patient. Which is why I was able to speak to him at all.

Solving the human puzzle always felt good. So did helping people. Just not this person particularly.

He nodded once awkwardly. “Thanks.”

“Don’t mention it.” I said standing up and walking back to jasper and Monty who’d taken up to talking with some of the others.

Jasper smiled at me when I joined the circle as all were listening to Monty rant with surprising interest.

“So wait. You’re saying you can eat it?” the guy said no doubt dumbing down whatever Monty was saying.

He looked at him and sighed in defeat. “Yeah. You can eat it.”

I smiled as the guy took it from him and stuck it in his mouth with glee.

“Awesome!” he said after tasting it.

WE all laughed at the cute brainless boy before us.

Someone came up from behind us and pulled Monty and Jasper out of the circle.

All remained uninterested but I followed Finn who had my friends by their necks.

“Four of us, can we go now?” he said to Clarke.
