After the moment of tense silence that follows Namjoon's speech, Jin sighs and with that sounds, the tension starts to fade from the room.
"Fine", he says and throws you a smile. "I guess we have no other choice than to make it work somehow."
Hoseok nods in agreement. "There will be a way", he comments. "I'm sure of it. We just need to get Yoongi on board." The eyes of the five demons lock onto the door of the room through which Yoongi vanished a while ago.
"Will he be okay?", you ask quietly, fondling Daimon's ears which elicits a deep purr from his chest even though he is fast asleep."He must", Jungkook speaks up. He stares at the door as if he wants to summon Yoongi back to the room. "Yoongi is the key to this fight. He has the most knowledge, the most control and thus, the most power. We cannot do it without him."
"Give him some time", Jin adds. His voice is less determined than Jungkook's, a tad bit softer. It sounds more as if he understands Yoongi and what he is going through. "He hasn't gotten used to the thought that we lost Jimin, yet. He may not have loved him in a romantic sense, but there was something between the two of them after all. Time is all he needs."
You shift in your seat, still unsettled, and a smile flickers across his face. "Don't worry", he murmurs. "He will come to you when he needs it."
You're unsure why he said this and thus return his glance with an awkward smile. Jin's grin deepens, as if he knows something you don't, then he turns away.Again, silence falls. It's as if no one knows exactly what to say, busy with their own thoughts. Your mind, for one, is definitely spinning. The reality of what you agreed to is slowly seeping into your consciousness and you become aware that you could definitely die as soon as you arrive – or after, after days of torture. You can only hope that in such a case, Jimin would drop his act and help you out, even though you're not sure of how much of a chance he stands after all you've heard from the other Sins.
And then there's Daimon. You look down on the small black cat in your lap whose fur your hands are still stroking. You have never seen the familiar fight or seriously defend himself, so you're not sure if he will be of any help. Then again, he is a supernatural being, and you are probably underestimating him.As if you called out to him, Daimon's eyes open. "Stop worrying", he murmurs. "I'm with you."
You can't help a little smile. "You're just a little cat, though", you mumble back. "Can you really protect me, Daimon?" Your voice has a playful tone, but the familiar realizes it's only half a joke and lifts his head from his paws.
"You offend me, M'lady", he says calmly, looking right back at you. The silver in his eyes burns on your skin. "But rest assured, I am much more than just a 'little cat' and eventually, you will find out. But not today."
"No, not today", you agree while you return to petting Daimons back. His sleek fur feels good under your fingers and his quiet purrs calm you down. "You should rest."The cat chuckles. "I am rested", he says. "Unlike demons, familiars can rest, but it doesn't take us as long as humans. So I thought I would answer any questions you have while we're here."
You can feel the others paying the two of you more attention. One after the other, the demons start listening in on the conversation. Under their glances, it takes a few seconds for you to concentrate back on Daimon."Well, first of all: how are we gonna get there?", you ask the question that has been burning in your chest for a while now.
Daimon blinks slowly. "We will walk", he says, deadpan. "With a bit of teleportation in between, but we will walk."
"Walk?" You frown. "Wherever would we walk? We're in a cave."
Daimon lowers his head to lick one of his paws. For half a minute, he cleans it meticulously, as if he is enjoying the attention you give him. In the background, you can hear Namjoon hiss a snide remark. "Cats."The familiar doesn't seem to hear him and if he did, he doesn't pay attention to his comment. "We will leave the cave, then", he finally replies after he is satisfied with the cleanliness of his paw. "Another reason why the others cannot accompany you. Apart from the fact that they are not allowed to leave this cave, whether that be through teleportation or humane means of moving, even if they could, it would be nearly impossible for them to teleport to a place so far away from here. Therefore, we will travel in several stages, to make sure we don't get lost in time and space somewhere in between."
A shiver runs down your spine when you remember what Yoongi taught you about time and space. Getting lost in that white, sterile place, as beautiful and impressive as it was the first time, truly seems like a curse.
"I cannot teleport yet, though", you then remember. Amusement blinks in Daimon's eyes and a small cat-laugh rolls through his tiny chest. "Yes, but I can, Y/N", he purrs after. "I told you not to worry."You realize you're blatantly underestimating the familiar and his powers. "Well, I will leave everything to you, then", you smile and he blinks at you. "Please do, Y/N." His words are soft and weirdly loving and they send an electric shock down your body. Daimon eyes you from the side, but although he seems to notice the sensation running through your veins, he doesn't comment on it.
"I think we can all agree Daimon has got this", Jin says. "If you have any other questions about the Ayabbi, you can ask us. Especially Yoongi, even though..." He hesitates and throws the door another glance.
"I'm sure he will answer any questions you have", Jungkook interjects firmly. His voice is full of determination and confidence, which surprises you given that you got to know him as a quiet, sort of shy person.
Regardless, you give the Sins a smile. "Thank you, guys", you say, and you mean it. Jungkook shakes his head, and Hoseok smiles at you.
"Anytime, Y/N."It is decided that you will leave a week later. Until then, the demons promise you, they will tell you anything they know about the Ayabbi. The only one not making this promise is Yoongi – you don't see him for the next four days. It's as if he was completely erased from this plane of the world, but as easily as he vanished, he returns. One day, you find him sitting in the living room, swirling a good amount of whiskey around in his glass.
"You're back", you say. It's the only thing that comes to mind while Daimon rubs around your legs. He has been getting more attentive and attached to you over time, rarely leaving your side by now. But right now, he realizes you need to be alone with Yoongi. With a last small meow, as if he wants to say he will be nearby if you need him, he jumps through the entrance hall and vanishes up the stairs.
Yoongi looks up from his glass as if he didn't hear you before, which you don't believe is true. "Y/N", he says. "Yes, I... I needed some time alone.""Where did you go?", you ask. There's a hint of accusation in your voice that you didn't intend to be there, and Yoongi lifts his eyebrows. "Why? Did you miss me?", he retorts, the tiniest smile playing around the corners of his mouth.
You frown. "No", you reply, even though it is painfully obvious that you're lying. Yoongi's smile deepens. "I didn't miss you either", he gives back, which is a lie just as evidently. "Come here."You oblige, slowly sinking onto the sofa next to him. He eyes you, sipping from his cup. "I hear the others have been telling you a thing or two about the Ayabbi", he comments. You shrug. "They tried", you say. "But I don't think they've ever been that close to them. They told me a little about their powers, whom I should stay away from the most, and so on... But it was very generic, all in all."
Yoongi's eyes search your face. From the look on his face, you can't tell if he is genuinely looking for something or just enjoys looking at you, but his glance makes you feel like your heart skips a beat nonetheless – even though you don't have a heartbeat anymore.
"Do you want me to tell you a littlebit more?", he then asks. You look up. "Can you?"Yoongi smiles, but you don't know if it's meant to be nice or not.
"I definitely can. They were my family once, remember?" The smile deepens, and this time something else twinkles in his eyes as he puts his glass aside. He leans forward and props his arms up on his knees, rubbing his palms together.
"There is nothing about them that I don't know."
