He couldn't sleep, there was no need to even try. He couldn't close his eyes and give in to the pleasure of sleep even if he wanted to. Not when the person he loved had gone through the worst thing imaginable. Not when Shane was lying in his arms after suffering what no human should suffer. Per Shane's words, it hadn't gone too far but the only thought in Jeremy's mind was the fact that it could have, and the consequences after that should the perpetrator lie about what happened.

He couldn't do it. He needed to keep watch over him. The boy boy his lips as he watched Shane sleep soundly, his chest rising and falling with a steady breath. Jeremy couldn't help but wonder how Shane could sleep even with what happened.

Yet, he also wished for nothing but a sound mind and peace for him. He briefly wondered if the boy was even aware that he had sent him that message detailing what had happened at Meghan's house. It wasn't easy to say such things out loud, and Jeremy knew that. He was proud of Shane's bravery.

He stroked the boy's brown hair gently, noticing how long it had gotten. It was way past his neck now, reaching his shoulders.

"Please be okay," he whispered as he kissed the top of Shane's head with the hope that in the end, the boy would be alright. Jeremy would have loved to stay up all night if only to just admire Shane's features but the thoughts in his mind were enough to keep him up.

Although, by the time Jeremy realized what was happening, Shane was shifting in bed and the silver haired boy was startled awake. His eyes parted with worry, suddenly afraid that something had happened over the night. A quick look at his phone assured him that he had managed to stay up until five in the morning and was only asleep for about an hour and a half.

His fears were also short lived when he saw Shane breathing quietly against his chest, making Jeremy's lips turn up into a sad smile.

"Good morning," he heard Shane whisper, the boy's fingers rubbing his side.

"Morning baby," Jeremy whispered in response. "How are you feeling?"

It was an innocent question. It didn't come from what Jeremy had read the night before, but rather a simple question because he really just wanted to know how Shane was feeling that morning. Yet, the answer that Shane gave him worried him further.

"I'm fine," the boy deadpanned. The moment he answered Jeremy's question, Shane got up from bed and headed to the bathroom.

Jeremy bit his lip, afraid that he had done something wrong but couldn't for the life of him figure out what it was. He thought that he should say something, but seeing how Shane reacted just from that question made him think otherwise. Jeremy felt that he would be rubbing salt in Shane's wounds if he said anything that pertained to the incident.

Still, he also got up from bed and followed Shane. There was no need to let something hang over their heads when they could spend the entire day together. Jeremy decided that he would use this time to cheer Shane up.

"You look good in my shirt," he said when he entered the bathroom. Shane was standing by the sink, looking at something on his face in the mirror. Jeremy went to him and hugged him from behind.

"Do I?" Shane asked with a chuckle.

Jeremy nodded as he pressed his lips to Shane's neck. "I missed you so much when I was there," he told Shane.

The boy let out a breath and allowed his head to fall back on Jeremy's shoulder. "I missed you too, so much," he whispered and then turned around to kiss Jeremy on the lips. He put his all in the kiss, taking as much from Jeremy as he gave him and the tall boy allowed him to. He surrendered himself to Shane and gave Shane the control he needed, because even if Shane did not say it out loud, Jeremy knew that the boy felt lost and needed something to hold onto that could steer him back.
