-emmakvpIt wasn't until the next morning that my parents announced that their anwer was yes. "HORAAAYYY!!!" we all rejoiced. "We will go to the facility tomorrow morning to pick up our puppy. Daddy will take off work to go with us." mom said. All of us kids nodded happily. Tomorrow is Friday. Ryan, Troy, Grace, and I have school off tomorrow for a teacher work-in day.
We were all in the car driving to the guide dog center when the car abruptly stopped. "Mom," I said. "Sorry," mom said, "We have to stop." "Why?" Me and my brother asked at the same time. "I need to get some things," she continued. I looked around at the plaza of shops she had stopped at. Walmart©, a Chinese restaurant, a dentist office, and last, but not least, a Petco©!!! "Yay! " all of my siblings and I exclaimed as we figured out that we were going to Petco©.
When we walked in the door, we were greeted by the familiar smell of rawhide, rubber, and animal poop. "Hello guys, can I help you find anything today?" A brown- haired lady with brown eyes asked us as we walked into the store. "Um, yes. We are looking for Blue© dog food." My mom said as she looked at a folded little piece of torn paper that she had pulled out from her purse. "Right this way" the lady said as she walked in the direction of the dog goods. When we got what we needed, my mom told us that all of us kids could choose a toy to buy for our new puppy. Before she even finished, all of us kids scattered like flies. We all rummaged through the assortment of dog toys trying to find the perfect toy when I saw it.
It was a red and cream colored rope with a big knot tied on each end. "What's that?" My little sister Grace asked me when I picked it up. "It's a tug- of- war rope," I told her. "Oh," she said and walked away. She hasn't had experiance with dogs as much as I have. Ever since Sofie was in her wheelchair, I volunteered to walk her dog Lacey. Lacey was a pomeranian, a small, but mighty dog. Sofie had gotten Lacey when she was five. She was now 13. So, Lacey was about 8 years old. And, her absolute favorite toy in the entire world was a smaller version of what I held in my hands, a tug- of- war rope.
When we got in line to check out, my mom whispered in my ear, "Good choice," she said. "Thanks," I whispered in return with a grateful nod.
We pulled up a few minutes later in to a parking lot that had clearly just been redone, with fresh white lines indicating the parking spots, even though someone had parked well over it. I hate when people do that then don't even repark it to get it in the right place. On the way in, I had noticed some other people walking dogs around a very neat, well kept path. The path had a lot of different terrains to walk on. For example, shell, concrete, a bridge, dirt, and many more. I'm guessing, that was to teach the dogs to walk on different things.
After mom had signed all the paperwork and agreed to all the terms and conditions, an older lady with white hair, glasses, and a name tag that said "Betsy," told us to follow her down a long hallway. When we followed Betsy down the hallway, I noticed that there were many doors on either side of the hallway. She turned around and unlocked a door. As she was unlocking it, I heard a sound...
