A few weeks passed since the eventful weekend of the first Quidditch game of the year. While she hardly remembered the details of her first game, which she suffered a week-long concussion over, her games since then went as smooth as ever. So far, Gryffindor was on a four-game winning streak, and Layla was the main reason. Her brother faced a week's worth of detention for his misconduct, so when they played Slytherin again he didn't dare to mess with her again.

After each win the whole common room would celebrate, but Layla would rush off with Lily and Remus after everyone started getting intoxicated.

Everything was going perfectly, the late-night lessons with Lily and Remus were helping her keep her powers separate from her emotions, classes were going smoothly even with OWLs approaching quickly, her amazing friends were beyond supportive, and she hadn't even gotten pranked in a long time.

It was a little too strange how quickly things were seemingly going back to normal.

One thing that did in fact have her confused was that Sirius Black had not spoken to her since the day he saved her life. She tried to thank him on multiple occasions but he was avoiding her like she was the plague. Layla would try to talk to him in Potions, or during practice, and she even tried to ambush him in the Common Room and each time he would find a way to dodge her, and the thing that made her stop completely was when she caught him snogging Amelia Harp at the Three Broomsticks one weekend.

They weren't friends, that's for sure, and she definitely did not like Sirius Black, but watching him snog some girl made her feel far more than she wanted. It was like this sinking feeling, and maybe even a reality check that spread through her as she decided to match his energy from that day on.

Two can play a game.

As Lily and Layla started their way towards their next class, Remus caught up to them nudging them both with his shoulder. The three of them were far closer now that they all shared a secret together, they would walk to a few classes together and study in the library for their upcoming O.W.L. exams a few nights a week before they would head down to the Black Lake.

"Hi Remus!" Layla chirped happily and Lily said the same right after, before Layla happily went on, "You excited for tonight? It's a full moon so it's going to be so much easier to see, I don't even think we're going to need to summon a lumos either!"

This was the exact moment Remus Lupin was afraid of.

"Actually, about that, I don't think I'll be able to meet you both for a few days" Remus looked nervous, scared the girls would get mad at him. "I'm visiting my mum cause she's ill, and the boys and I have a top-secret mission we need to focus on tonight"

It was only a partial lie really, the map was something they've been working on, and Remus always used the going home excuse as a reinforcement. He felt terrible for lying to the girls he had grown very close to the past few weeks, but he couldn't exactly tell the girls the real reason why he literally cannot show up tonight as himself, so he prayed his words were enough for them.
