It was the roaring from the crowds that snapped Layla White out of her trance.

There she stood with the rest of the team, her matching Gryffindor Quidditch robes on, a high ponytail tied with one of Lily's red and gold scrunchies, broom in hand, and a completely muddled brain.

She was never an anxious person, but for some reason standing there, waiting for the signal from the announcer had her stuck in her own head. She tried the small talk with her teammates, but they were not helping her nerves at all and instead she felt far more pressured now.

Everyone was counting on her.

James Potter and Sirius Black snickered excitedly with each other, eager to face the Slytherins for their first game back. James was telling Sirius a possible strategy they could use to score some points against Slytherin but Sirius' eyes were scanning the team. Unsure of what he was exactly looking for, his eyes were suddenly glued to Layla White, and her incredibly high ponytail.

He could only see half of her face, but from what he could tell she looked like she was two seconds away from running right back into the locker rooms. Grabbing James' arm, he started dragging him towards her.

"What the-where the bloody hell are we doing Padfoot-why does it look like we're going right towards White"

"That's because we are Prongs"

"Yeah but wh-oh didn't see you there White, wow you look like shite" James tumbled over his words, and Sirius only shook his head at his friend.

"Excuse me-" Layla was snapped out of her nerves as she now stared at James Potter with obvious distain.

"What James is trying to say is, we saw you alone and figured we would bless you with our company" Sirius flicked James in the back, causing the boy to let out a screech.

Layla could not help the laugh that came out of her, "Bloody hell Potter what is wrong with you?"

"I-" James looked over at Sirius who gave him a look. Taking a deep breath James looked back over at Layla, who looked far more confused now. "Listen, you don't have to be nervous White, I don't say this much and I won't say it ever again but you're bloody brilliant up there"

Layla looked between the two of them, but instead of seeing their usual mischievous smirks, she felt authenticity coming from James, and a ting of discomfort. Unsure of what to say, Layla decided she should probably just say thank you and move on before James decided he wanted to take another route and light her hair on fire. "Well that's very kind of you-"

"Not as brilliant as me of cour-Ow sorry I mean, yes brilliant" James rubbed the spot on his arm where Sirius elbowed him, muttering insults under his breath.

"Lovely! Anyways!" Sirius interrupted the incredibly awkward moment thankfully, "We still hate you White, don't expect fun civil conversations like this off the field"
