~Flashforward to 16-year-old Y/n~
"Pitter Patter" the rain vocalised. It was remarkably bitter tonight I must admit. Lamentably, I was a homeless teenage girl, splendid. Fortunately, I have my cloak drapped around my body like a cocoon to keep me a moderate warmth. I was squatting in a rusty, semi mouldy abandoned barn to protect me from the torrential rain that was splitting down onto the musty surroundings. To be honest, the barn was not of the best quality, yet I can't complain too much since it is my only place to stay after all these years. Although, I had a couple of animals to keep me company such as Arnold the pig, Carol the chicken and Gary the cow; I know it was kinda idiotic of me to name them but I was greatly lonely and I needed some company. Am I possibly going insane? I have resided mostly in this barn ever since I had left all those years ago apart from the occasional loving family or old married couple. That warmth I was given by them was always pleasant but I always knew it was temporary and they would never take a bullet for me. Vociferously, the rain proceeded to sprawl onto the dirty, cobbled pavements below, which is relatively insensitive if you ask me.
I closed my eyes to attempt to drown out the rain, drifting me into a good nights sleep - for me at least -. Total blackness has taken over and I was in the land of peace before, painstakingly, the sun glistened into my eyes waking me up from my so-called good nights' sleep. As well as the torturous sun I felt Arnold brushing up against me, I assume he desires to be fed. I scrambled up to stumble over to the sac of random, misshaped vegetables I scrummaged at farmers fields - honestly, the food industry is terrible these days, throwing away perfectly fine vegetables like garbage.
I set down the vegetables and I strolled out of the crumbling barn. I was especially peckish so I guess pinching a loaf of bread and an apple will do me for the day. The barn I was occupying was on the border of the stiffest kingdom (The Antarctic Empire). The trek was fairly pleasant though. The windy gravel path took me upon mounting scapes. They reminded me of the mountains back when I was at home. I must admit I am a lot happier here, I've always been an independent woman after all and I didn't enjoy slaving away.
Amber orange grass coated the layers of fields and fields that lay on top of the towering hills. I felt the cool breeze brush up against my somewhat dirty skin - It was moments like these where I feel free. This gale was sweeping my greasy hair away from my face; I know I don't look like any princess but hey at least I'm free. Unintentionally, I admired the landscape before me, the entwining earth and gingerly place trees seemed to be effortlessly tranquil.
For another half an hour or so my lengthy hike came to an end, I had arrived at my destination. The grand cottages and large castle stood in front of me. It was like an ordinary day in the Antarctic Empire, the early morning sun was glistening onto the nippy lakes and frosted flowers. The kingdom has come to life at its normal time, 8am; the villagers in the crowded streets were scuttering to make it to work on time whilst the shops and bakeries were opening up for the long day ahead. I heard Slight chatter amongst the swarm of villagers talking about the latest episode of whatever tv show they enjoyed or what they had for dinner the night before.
I scrambled into the maze of people aiming for the market. No one ever notices a lost item in the market, the traders are always occupied with another customer or distracted from the sheer beauty of this kingdom. The streets are large and sumptuous created with a sandstone colour cobble that is distinctly delicately positioned. The street lights are an inadequate inconvenience during the daytime but important at night nonetheless.
Safely, I had made it to the market square which is where I found that life was buzzing. I always have enjoyed the vibe and environment that came with the market square; It's such a shame that my sinful behaviour of theft has to ruin the experience. I have always adored the coloured cloth roofs that hung over the wooden pillars that were connected to the bench covered in exotic fruits, fabrics, baked goods, etc. Safe to say I love everything about the marketplace. Fortuitously, I made eye contact with a particular stall mounted with bread and other various pastries. I had to make my way through a mass amount of people to reach this stall though, why do I even bother. As I made my way towards the stall I felt a tinkle of nervousness spark inside of me, okay this is very unusual for me. On the way, I bumped into a few people who would glare at me or mutter curses, how inconsiderate! The stall has a purple and white strippy roof and oak wooden structure; the lady inside is fair-skinned, with pastel pink hair and, is rather a petite height (which was complemented by her high cheekbones and sparkling eyes) women. She is wearing a dark blue apron that covers her sage green, knitted sweater and floral skirt. This woman also has a kind nature kind of vibe, poor thing must be extremely vulnerable and taken advantage of often.
Imagine this but full of people and market stalls
Whilst the woman was facing the opposite direction and distracted from a concerned customer, I slipped a loaf of bread into my handy satchel. I started to wander away from the busy stall, I believe I just have gotten away with murder. Abruptly, a loud whistle was blown and I looked over to my right to see an office chasing me, shit; I have not gotten away with murder.
Swiftly, I aggressively shoved past the citizens of this country to attempt to at least save myself. I knew the city inside out but to be straight up with you I had no clue where I was going. I had escaped the crowd but I was still being chased by those horrid police officers. By this time I hadn't realised the sun has set so quickly. The rain started to pour down upon the earth, wow my life does feel like some fairytale book but when does it get better? Suddenly, I tripped myself up on a misplaced bit of cobble, clearly not looking where I am going; well done Y/n. Okay, so I know if I continue to run then this dreadful police officer with catch me and arrest me so it's time for a fight, you can do this Y/n!
I had my fists out and he did too, at least he is fair. "That innocent young lady is about to get some justice" The officer snarled.
"Oh please" I confidently returned.
I aimed for his head so he tried to protect his fragile brain; however, I had other plans. I diverted my punch into his ribs, breaking at least one rib, feeling the rough fabric that made his uniform. What, I live on an abandoned farm with three animals I'm bound to be strong. While the office was hunching over his tall police hat that is navy blue and consisted of the gold badge that took the centre stage so I took the opportunity and went for the nose breaking it instantly, which then gave me the chance to hit him in the chin, that had a considerate amount of stubble, knocking him out instantly. Before the disgrace of human beings even had the chance to plummet to the floor in his unconscious state, I ran headlong.
I sprinted down an alleyway. The back alley was slippery with precipitation and was notably dangerous. The dark bricks from houses on either side blocked out all the light making it hard to see. Now I'm practically blind and have a high chance of slipping and cutting my head open, great. I heald onto the railing for dear life and I had to since this route was my only escape.
Eventually, I escaped that hideous alleyway, phew. I can see the gravel path I used to arrive at this kingdom, thank the lord.
That was a close call.
