Julia Herring was a librarian at the local library. She lived a simple life. She did enjoy reading historical books and yelling at her ex-husband, Rick. Underneath her kind personality, was a persuasive, vicous creature. That's why Rick divorced her. She sat at her desk at the top floor at the library. She liked to say top floor because there were only two floors. Again, she really wanted everything to be her way. On the second floor of the library, there was hundreds of historical books for her to flip through. She was amazed by the old way of life. When there were districts, and the Hunger Games. She loved to read stories about the Hunger Games. Especially the last few. They had the Mickingjay Pin in them. she dreamed of the pin in her hands. Rubbing her soft fingers on the cold metal and wearing it proudly. That was her only wish in the world. That was all.
Julia heard on the news about Mr. Reed Noting. She was close with him. They would talk about the pin for hours and discuss ways to track it. Little did they know, the pin was in their own country. She would like it if it took five minutes to find it, but if it's in the country, it can't be that far. Reed was out in prison for attempted murder for five years. Who was Julia supposed to talk to know? Her co-workers? No! She hated them, even though she was their boss. She visited Reed in prison once every Saturday. They talked about the pin.
"Reed, I can't do this alone. You're the one with the weapons skill, not me."
"Julia, you'll be fine. If you need my help, you'll know exactly where I am." Reed was reassuring, but Julia wasn't really buying it. She was skinny with weak arms and little thighs. She was not attractive. Her face was pretty, but she was just wimpy everywhere else. Reed helped her a lot with little things like punching and knee-kicks. He was her weapon-man. She was his know-it-all. They were the best team. Julia needed real assurance. This made her jump, at her own thought. She quickly left the prison and drove home as fast as she could. She went to her laptop and went to the Internet. She found the best ancestry site. Skimming through names, numbers, and birth records, she finally found the youngest Everdeen. A woman named Lisa. She was middle aged. Thank goodness for Julia because Lisa lived in a small town named Pawnee, in Indiana. Julia lived on Oklahoma. A city in Oklahoma named Tulsa. Her drive would be long, but it was worth it. She did have second thoughts. Many women get married. This Lisa person could have a daughter. Who was 12. She left right away.
Once she got to Pawnee, she booked a room in a nice hotel because she hated motels. She didn't like the art, the rats, or the '4-star rating' by nobody. She bought some clothes from Target because she didn't have the time to pack. Then, she ventured to the hospital to find a birth record. Maybe she would only find Lisa's. Maybe she would find a daughter. Julia found a nurse working at the front desk.
"Hi, my name is Lola Boridi. I need the birth record for Lisa Hallanay." Julia was smart. She never used a real name. The nurse upsetted 'Lola'.
"I'm sorry, ma'm, you need to be in close relation with the patient to see her record." Julia was suprised at this nurse's tone.
"Well, for your information, I am Lisa's cousin. I need her birth record. Give it to me." Julia was being very harsh with this nurse.
"Please- um- you don't have to take that tone, but to verify your relation to Ms. Hallanay, I have to do a blood test." Julia was furious. A blood test? For a birth record? She thought 'Well, it makes sense to pay the price but I have to ease in without a blood test.' She instantly knew.
"You can't do that, silly!" Julia smiled a fake-o grin to act nice."It's a very long story. My grandfather passed away so my grandmother re-married. Lisa's grandfather is blood related to her, but not me. He's my step-grandfather. Then, of course my parents had me and her parents had her so we're technically related just not bloodwise." Julia had to catch her breath for a moment. The nurse just stood there, and collected her thoughts. Then, she spoke.
"Look, I can let you see her records if she recognizes you. Sorry." The nurse added her quick apology so not to make Julia mad again.
"Lady, I've really changed since the last time I saw her. We were both twelve. I also dyed my hair last month." The nurse galnced at Julia's hair.
"Then answer me this. Why would you need her birth records if you haven't seen her in years?" Julia
mentally hit herself. How could she forget not to ruin this? Julia acted calm and replied shortly.
"We're having a family reunion and we have all of the birth records to look back at our ancestry, and because it's tradition." The nurse gave her a smug look.
"So you think that I'm just going to hand over very classified papers to you for a party? No. I'm sorry but you should really leave." Julia looked around for any suveliance cameras or passing people. Not many people were at the hospital on Tuesday afternoons and there was one camera that was facing away from her. Julia acted fast. She punched the poor nurse onto her feet and tied her hands with some medical tape. She also taped up her mouth so a scream for the nurse was a wimper to everyone else. Julia put on some rubber gloved that were on the desk and placed her hands on the computer keyboard. The search bar came up. She slowly typed 'Hallanay, Lisa'. She found it! after printing it out she had to check if Lisa had a kid. Sure enough, there was a little baby girl born 12 years ago. Julia laughed and scanned her eyes over the printing documents. Lisa's had an extra page. Her chart? Julia understood immediatley. Lisa was in the hospital, right now. Joy raced through Julia. She untied the scared little nurse and dashed to the elevator.
Once she got to the correct floor, Julia pranced around until she found Ms. Hallanay. A smile creeped on her face. Lisa was awake, eating her red Jell-O in silence. Julia walked in with no notice. Lisa darted her eyes right to Julia.
"Hi, can I help you?" Lisa sounded so nice and peaceful. Julia smiled.
"My name is Sarah Burchov. I'm from Child Services. Let's talk about-" Julia stopped and flipped through her papers. "Ms. Delilah Hallanay."
