"T-taro!"
"Shumai!?"
Shuichi had burst through the door of the bakery. The bell was still ringing as he frantically searched. Finally Shuichi spotted him. Amami's head bumbed hard at the base of the counter top. He slowly rose to the top while rubbing his head. Shuichi's eyes splotched wet as he tried to keep it together. They gave each other an awkward hug through the counter.
The bakery was cozy. If only Kiibo could feel warmth. The walls were painted four different colors. A baby pink wall with musical notes that have been peeling off. It was to the far left with a mini piano set to the side of some comfy burgundy lounging chairs. There was a white coffee table that coasted drinks.
There was a deep blue wall to left of the pink. It was a calm wall with not much going on. Just some speakers that hummed retro jazz. The high top table and chairs made it a cozy area for people who want to chat. There was also a built in chess board on the table. Kiibo thought about challenging Shuichi to a game.
Next to that to the left was a green wall. It was an avocado green color that smiled humbly over the bakery. The wall was decorated with Amami's adventures. A picture of him by a waterfall was the most eye catching. There was a door that was decorated with photos. None Kiibo could make out. It must've been where the cooking went on. In front of the green wall were the case for all the goods the bakery had to offer. There were a batch of cookies that were aromatic but of course Kiibo couldn't smell.
And finally the purple wall with the entrance to the door had a vending machine. A bunch of sweet drinks, like strawberry milk and peach sodas decorated the inside.
This side of the bakery had a white and black checkered bulletin board.Special of the day:
Lonesome Cheese cake
Half off
(It's just regular cheese cake but you only get one slice)
-RantaroThe board looked like it had been erased and written on several times.
A tearful Shuichi spoke.
"I-I'm so glad to see you. I-I-I-"
"Its okay. It's okay. Breath, Shu."
Shuichi took a deep breath and held on to Amami. Kiibo sat at a booth across from them. They felt a bit awkward so they started to thumb through a menu.
The cheesecake in the pictures did look awfully lonely."W-wow, Shu. I haven't seen you since..."
A long silence corrupted their conversation. "Er...I know." Shuichi finished."Uh? Do you want to work a shift? I'll wash dishes with you. Just like old times?"
"Taro. That's really sweet. I'd love too. But-"
Suddenly a girl burst through the door carrying muffins and bread rolls. She walked with uncertainty...or maybe she was gonna fall?
"Hey! Mahiru what did I tell you about-"
"Yeah. Yeah. I washed the dishes, too. I'm going on break after this."
"That wasn't what I was gonna say." Amami looks earnestly to Shuichi and Kiibo. "I was gonna tell her it was her off day." He chuckled.
He shifts back to Shuichi.
"I understand, Shumai. So, who's your friend? Would you like some coffee?"Kiibo jumped a little. He was staring longingly at the cheesecake part of the menu.
"Eh, they don't eat." Shuichi answered.
Amami took a long look at Kiibo before realizing. "Oh! Hi there, little dude. Didn't know you were tin."
"Its carbon steel and titanium but," Kiibo smiles. He puts his hand on his hand for Amami to shake. "Hello, Mr. Amami. I am K1-B0 but I go by Kiibo."
"Ah, I see." Amami smiles warmly. "Do you eat?"
"No, sir. I wish I could."
"Well, Kiibo. Although you can't eat, nothing can stop you from creating. Shuichi, why not show your friend how to bake?"
"T-taro."
"I know. We haven't baked in a while. Honestly, I ask Mahiru for her help. It bums me out not seeing dirty mixing bowls in the sink. Especially since Ms. Kozumi washes everything. I mean not that I'm complaining."
"Kichi never washed his bowls." Shu smiled softly.
"Do you still hear it?"
"What? Kae and Kichi's rock paper scissors in the background? I can always hear it....it never leaves."
They smile bitter sweetly as they held hands.
Amami sighs and reaches under his counter. He pulls out a small white card and hands it to Shuichi.
"Let your friend do this with you. Baking with Mahiru has helped me alot.....even tho she never adds surprise ingredients and she always cooks it at the right temperature." He taps his hand on the desk. "Come to think of it. She's more of a boss than me. Maybe I should give the place to her." He chuckles.Shuichi held on tight to the card. He looked at Kiibo and then to Amami. "Alright. We will. Thanks, Taro."
"So what brought you by anyway?"
The atmosphere thickened. A long silence perturbed as the jazz music got jazzier.
Kiibo took the chance to get to business. "Mr. Amami I think you want to sit down."
"I'll go get some coffee."
