Here's chapter two!
--------------------------------------------
"Time to get up your highness! Come on, up you get."

Emma woke up a few hours later to a shrieking maid and her smiling mother bustling about her room. Emma groaned at the light coming through the now open curtains that hung around her bed. She pulled her covers over her head only to have them yanked back my her nursemaid, Granny Lucas.

Granny was a sever but kindly old woman whose daughter, Red, worked as a delivery girl at a bakery in town. Red was good friends with my mother, Snow, and has been since my mothers banditry days.

"Come on, Emma, it's time to wake up!" Snow said pulling Emma to her feet as Granny continued to chant 'up, up, up!' as she bustled about Emma's bedchambers.

"Happy Birthday sweetheart!" Snow said pulling Emma into a hug which Emma returned. "I can't believe my little girl is all grown up and 20 years of age!"

"Thank you." Emma said with a smile pulling back and holding her mothers hands.

"Yes, yes it's all very nice you managed not to prick your finger, make a deal with the Dark One, or eat a poisoned apple," Granny shot a pointed look at Snow, "before you're fully grown but there is far too much to do today for all this mushy talk. Save that for the ball tonight! Now chop chop miss Emma, get dressed!"

Snow rolled her eyes and patted Emma's cheek as the blonde snickered and then the raven haired woman turned to leave.

Granny left as well to let Emma get ready for the day. Emma slipped out of her nightdress and did up her corset and undergarments before slipping a simple pale pink dress on, doing up her hair and making her way to the dinning hall for a quick breakfast with her parents.

"Happy Birthday Emma." Her father, Prince David said with a smile as she entered the room. He stood to give his only daughter a hug before helping her into her chair for her Birthday breakfast.

One of the servers, Bailey, came out bearing a fairly simple birthday meal which didn't bother Emma in the slightest. She didn't like to be fussed over too much.

"Forgive me, your highness, that your birthday meal is fairly simple, but the cooks have gone all out for the dinner at tonight's ball and didn't have much spare time." Bailey said as he placed the meal in front of the blonde.

"No, no! This is wonderful, thank you." Emma said with a kind smile which Bailey returned before making his way back to the kitchen.

The Charming family sat and ate, laughing and talking completely at ease, but despite the peaceful atmosphere Emma couldn't help but wonder if this would be the last time she would have a normal breakfast with her family.

After the meal Snow and Emma made their way to the ballroom to help finish the the planning while David checked to be sure all the guards were in place for later to make sure no one uninvited managed to sneak through.

As Emma and her mother walked through the double doors into the grand ballroom, Emma couldn't help but groan inwardly. This was going to be a long day.
