Kim Hongjoong held Youngseok snug against his hip, ensuring he was supported accurately as he pushed open the glass door of the apartment building with his forearm – checking that Junyoung was following close behind. Clenched in his other fist was a large, brown paper bag with McDonald's takeout, intending to be tonight's dinner. After the shit week the alpha had had, he felt the desperate need to relax on his Saturday night, which meant no cooking. It had been his first week in the big city of Seoul, having just moved there from Anyang with his two young sons. There had been adjusting to the new apartment, signing Junyoung up for school and dealing with the pup's emotional distress.
Add in the fact that he moved in next to an obnoxious neighbour – it was far from a good week.
The neighbour had been the icing on the cake for Hongjoong that morning. Hongjoong had unfortunately been unable to introduce himself to the other man until recently. He had caught a glimpse of the male through the balcony door on occasion, in the mornings. Also Hongjoong could easily smell the omega pheromones that wafted through the walls. However, when he stepped out onto his balcony that morning with the intent of introducing himself, the omega seemed far from impressed. Nor was he welcoming.
Some might even consider the other wolf to be downright rude. The blonde haired omega with a slender waist and thick thighs absolutely refused to participate in Hongjoong's flirting. He had tried his very best to compliment the omega on both appearance and his scent. But neither seemed to impress him much. Rather, he fought back with a spice of rebellion.
But perhaps that was exactly how Hongjoong liked it, especially considering he couldn't get the omega off his mind all day.
"Ah, speak of the devil," Hongjoong mumbled under his breath. Pausing slightly on the filthy staircase, Hongjoong glanced ahead of him to the next landing. Standing there in the darkened shadows was his creamsicle omega. Watching for a moment, he noted the omega struggling with what appeared to be a gym bag slung over his shoulder and several grocery bags in his hands. Licking his lips slightly, Hongjoong took the remaining steps up to the landing.
"Appa" Junyoung mumbled, reaching forward to grab at his appa's pant leg. His little fist held the fabric, a pout coming across his lips. The little boy, at the age of five, was extremely shy. He didn't like interacting with strangers – which had made starting school rather difficult.
"It's okay puppies" Hongjoong encouraged when he felt Youngseok nuzzle against his neck. Junyoung's shyness was nothing compared to three-year-old Youngseok. His youngest son barely spoke – and it had nothing to do with inability. Hongjoong had tried everything for the little one, gone to every specialist. Youngseok could talk, he simply didn't want too.
Hongjoong blamed it on their past abandonment. Try as he might to ease the pain from their early childhood, the triggers remained. He knew that once things settled down for him he'd have to locate a counsellor. Mental health was important, he knew that, and it always came first. "We are just going to offer help," he explained, setting Youngseok down on his feet and signalling for Junyoung to take his head, before stepping towards the omega.
"Need some help?" Hongjoong offered in his kindest voice. He flipped his shaggy electric blue hair that was well overdue for a haircut, out of his face. Flashing a warm smile, he hoped the omega would be welcoming.
The unnamed omega glanced upwards at Hongjoong. At first glance the omega appeared to be grateful for the offer. His expression was soft and he had released a sigh of relief. However, the moment he locked eyes with the alpha, the blonde man frowned. Letting out a deep groan, the omega straightened his back to stand proud. "No, thank you." he answered firmly. But the man was clearly struggling, stumbling with the bags.
