Hikaru and Kaoru.

Kaoru and Hikaru.

Both were interesting. Both had each other. Both were lonely. That was why they came up with the game.

"Let's play the which one is Hikaru game!"

It was their favourite game. They wanted someone to be able to tell them apart. At the same time, they didn't want anyone to know the difference. Why? Well that would ruin the entire game!

But there was one girl, (Y/n) (L/n), who was always able to tell the difference. No matter what! They could change their clothes, their hairstyles, yet she always knew which one was which.

"Your Hikaru," she said, pointing at the twin on the right, "and your Kaoru." she smiled, pointing to the left. The twins had their jaws dropped to the floor. She was able to tell the difference. It was amazing! No one, not even their parents had been able to do that.

Many deemed it as an impossible game.

It practically was an impossible game. So how did this young girl know?

"How did you know?" Both the twins asked, still breaking out of their stupor.

"It's easy! Once you get to know someone, you'll always be able to tell the difference!" Smiling, you grabbed both of their gloved hands, pulling them to their feet. She was an evidently jolly young girl.

"Come on! Let's go play a game!"

With that, you ran off, dragging the bewildered twins behind you.

Neither twin knew at that moment, but this young woman would turn out to be the love of their lives.

------

"Hikaru, she seems so....happy...." The twin just nodded his head, staring at your retreating form. It had been a couple of years since you had been able to guess the twins apart. You were all now in high school, in different classes. Of course, that never stopped all of you from being the best of friends. It was just.....

"Hey (Y/n)!" You stopped walking, only to be met with a familiar face.

"Haruhi! Great to see you!" It was obvious that you and Fujiyoka got along wonderfully.

Even though the twins, especially Hikaru, wouldn't admit it, they were jealous. Jealous that someone else got your attention. Jealous that you cared about other people.

That should have been them. They should have got all your hugs. They should have got all your smiles. They knew that they were being selfish, but they just couldn't help it.

Hikaru, though oblivious to his feelings, developed you into a love interest. He just didn't know it yet. Kaoru knew of his twin's feelings. To his sadness, he held the same feeling towards you as Hikaru. He would never act on them for his brother's sake. All he wanted was for Hikaru to be happy.

Even if that meant he gave up the girl he truly loved.

The final bell of the day rang, signaling for everyone to head home or to after school clubs.

"Hikaru, come on." With that, he pulled his brother up, walking to the entrance of the school.

Just because they were both glum, did not allow them to run away from their obligations of the host club.

(Timeskip)

Wandering the hallways, you attempted to find the Hitachiin twins.

"Where could they have wandered off too?" You mumbled aloud. You had already checked music room three, asking Kyoya if he had seen the twins.

All the vice president said was they left looking in a bad mood. "I'm sorry (Y/n). The two just looked upset with something. Then, they both stormed off. Maybe you could try talking to them. They won't answer any of our calls! And we need them to make up for lost inventory! Time is money! But don't stress too much if you can't find them!"

It wasn't normal for the twins to leave early. A small sense of worry shot through you. What if they were upset with you? What if they wouldn't talk to you?

Those thoughts pushed you to run.

What if they were hurt?

What if....

Nevermind. They were fine. Slowing your running, you attempted to catch your breath. The twins didn't notice you. Kind of surprising given the fact you were two steps behind them. You were about to call their names when Hikaru started talking.

"She probably hates us. That must be why she doesn't hang out with us anymore."

"Yeah."

Your heart practically shattered in your chest. It was obvious they were talking about you. How could they think that? Without the two even realizing you were there, you ran and jumped on them, tears falling down your face.

"How could you think that!"

Though the twins were face down on the ground, they didn't need to see who it was to know it was you. Only one person would get that emotional over their thoughts.

Silently, you got off the twins, allowing both of them to stand up. The two turned to face you, feeling immensely guilty seeing tear stains. However, the thought wasn't given time to fester since you brought them into a tight hug.

"You two are idiots, you know that! Honestly! What the heck makes you think I didn't like you! Damn it I love both of you so much and you're too blind to it! I've loved you since we were six years old!"

The sudden confession just fell from your lips and you desperately hoped they didn't think about it.

Too bad for you, they did.

"What do you mean you love us? You mean...." Hikaru started and Kaoru finished, "one of us?"

The deflated look of the twins broke your heart. Had you caused all this pain without even realizing it? You were quick to correct the twins' earlier statement.

"No. I don't mean one of you. I mean both of you. Why do you think I was able to tell the two of you apart? I admired you from afar and learned things about you. You know, when you pay attention, even identical twins start to look different." No further words were exchanged as Hikaru and Kaoru brought you into a hug.

After a couple minutes, Kaoru spoke up, "You totally love us," he jokingly said.

You smiled, face buried in both of their jackets, "I totally love both of you."
