Slowly, he slips his fingers into Ambika Devi's palm and their fingers interlocked. King Adigun stole a glance at Ambika Devi and found she was staring at him the whole time. His eyes twitched and his palms suddenly got sweaty. Sitting became even more uncomfortable, yet Ambika Devi could not keep her eyes off King Adigun. He could not explain, neither could she refrain them from doing so.
In an endeavor to reach out to her pain, he leans over even more, until her lips make contact with his. Her eyes remain affixed to his. They still shone beautifully and were less tearful now. King Adigun contributed his share of the lean, and......their lips consumed the other's.
Ambika Devi's soft lips enveloped King Adigun's and along with it, remnant tears that had taken abode on his smooth lips.
"What do you want from me?" she whispered while she held his face in her hand.
He couldn't lie. In fact, he didn't want to lie to her.
"You", he replied.
She held the biggest smile he had seen on her in a very long time and it brought butterflies swarming in his belly. He leaned into her frame, placed his head atop her thighs while she toyed with his beards and seemed to comb them with her fingers before slowly beginning to plait them.
"Why are you staring at me like that?" she asked with her eyes narrowing.
He shrugged his shoulders and replied, "I was wondering how the gods made a goddess right here on earth. They don't usually send their kind to live amongst men until I found one in Brinda".
She smirked, replied in equally soothing tone and said, "Where have you found such goddess? Is it at the temple?"
King Adigun shook his head and replied, "In the heart of the kingdom, right here in the palace. I wasn't even looking for it when I found her or should I say she found me?"
Like a child at heart, he closed his eyes and pictured himself with her until his hair grew grey and their frames could no longer support them and they had to spend most of their time together in their chairs. It was an odd feeling and a rather disturbing thought he had never assumed he would envision. E was a soldier after all, and such thoughts wasn't meant for one who went to war as often as he breathed.
"Do I know the woman or lady of whom you speak?' she teased him before taking her fingers out of his hair.
King Adigun placed a finger to his chin for a moment and pretended to be lost in thought before saying, "Maybe, but she is pretty shy and gave me quite a tough time when we first met. I was pretty scared of her too".
Ambika Devi replied sharply, "Sounds like Talia, the seamstress. I have heard men of valor and honor have been courting her and she has been pretty feisty with them too".
King Adigun chuckled at his wife's sense of humor and decided to play along. "She just might be the one. What am I doing here with you then? Where is my Talia?"
They burst into laughter, before she leaned over and locked her lips with his for a rather long moment. He felt everything within his body stir and want her. He felt himself grow in heart and soul unlike he had ever felt or done before. He felt himself desire her in ways he didn't even imagine was possible. He wasn't one to slow down his life for a woman or even assume he would be doing so..
"Someday you will find yourself a woman and a queen with whom you want the world laid at her feet", his mother would often say.
King Adigun smirked and shook his head at the fact that he had assumed the woman was simply spilling rubbish; he had kept himself for war and battles were the only thing he courted. He had never seen space, free time or the opportunity to actually have himself enjoy such niceties he was enjoying with Ambika Devi.
"What goes through your mind when you close your eyes like that?" Ambika Devi broke through his thoughts.
"You", he replied honestly. "I think about how much I have changed and how much I seem to care about things I never truly understood before I met you".
Blood rushed into her cheeks and he watched her blush immensely.
"You must have known other beautiful women", she stated and teased before rolling her eyes. "Every Prince knows beautiful princesses all around and most are said to be... ".
He broke her words short and replied, "I have no knowledge of another woman... all I know is you and all I want to keep knowing is you".
The words came with ease and he could feel himself gravitating towards her as he lifted himself from her thighs and slowly cuddled up with her in bed. Yet, something had crawled into mind at that moment and he pondered hard and long on what guilt would tear through him if she indeed found out about it.
"Did your parents ever betroth you to another Prince?" he asked with her head now on his chest.
Ambika Devi shook her head. "My father had good understanding with the other kingdoms and didn't practice the habit of giving out his daughter for gains. He was a proud man as I am sure you came to see".
Unaware that he had dabbled towards such sensitive talk, he drifted his mind towards something even more troubling for him.
"What about you?" she asked.
He shrugged, smiled to himself and said, "They did no such thing".
He had lied and he could tell. His nostrils flared but her innocence at heart didn't detect anything. It made him sigh in relief while he thought about the Princess of Zankashu to whom he had been betrothed. It was a plan which was long in the making and which he had no say over as well. It was a scheme aimed at securing Chiroma's future with one the most powerful Kingdoms from the TIV land in Nigeria.
"I have eyes for you and you alone", he muttered to her.
Ambika Devi upped herself from his chest, stood before him with her clothing and then smirked wildly, "I am all yours, King Adigun".
Her submission left his heart throbbing, and the fact she no longer seemed to hate him made his soul lighter. In rater impatient state, he waited to see her clothing drop and enjoy the company of the queen as he ought to have for a while now. He could feel his soul reaching, his heart pounding and his feet getting rather warm as she teased him and gently reached for the arm of her dress.
Closing his eyes and waiting in nothing but absolute anticipation, King Adigun felt a rather sharp swirl and a feeling that something had changed about the scenery before him; the air felt different, and the comfort which he felt and had been treated to by the warm Ambika Devi went missing. Too scared to part his eyes open, he left them shut, thinking and wondering.
"What is going on?" he thought to himself one more time.
