Taking a risk

"Should we pick up some snacks too?" My friend Martin asked me while I was getting stuffs from the convenient store. "Get cigarettes too" He added.

"Get everything you need then pay for it. haha" I replied. He quickly took his card from his wallet as we stands in front of the counter. We grabbed the snacks and headed to his car.

I'm going to see Erin today, I talked to her in the morning on video call and told her I'll visit her but she stopped me because their house in under construction, plus it's a bit tricky today, there's blockage on some areas of the city, no signal connection on phone so I was just depending on wifi at home.

"Hi babe good morning" I pressed sent and dialled her number. it took just few seconds then she received my call. "Hi love how are you? did you sleep well?" she asked me, looks like she just opened her eyes and still so beautiful in my eyes.

"Love, be ready I'm coming to see you today" I exclaimed in excitement.

"Jaan, don't leave the house today because there will be road closures it's not safe" she said "Really? but this is my only day off from work" I said in disappointment. I didn't told her but I badly wanna see her, I took a time off from work today so I wanna try my luck, I already made my mind ready for this day, I can't back out for the last minute. I got 24 hrs so I think it'll be enough time. "Let's talk later, have your breakfast, i love you." I said then I ended the call.

I hurriedly dialled Martin's number to check if this moron is available, I pleaded to come with me to see my girlfriend and He's luckily available for the day.

"Yara signals on sim might not be available how will you call me once you get here?" asked him with a worried tone. "Once i get into your street I'll park to the closest parking spot then watch out on you." he replied. "Okay I'll go ahead and prepare then." I said then turned off the call and quickly fixed ny stuffs and everything.

It took just 30 minutes then Martin made his way to call me. I hurriedly went out to meet him.

After calling Erin in the morning, it's 12nn now, I didn't had any chance to call or talk to her, unfortunately she was right, roads are closed so we took a long way to her village, signals are off, it was so difficult to get even mobile connection for Google map.

"I'm getting nervous mann, what if I won't see her today." I said after few hours waiting and being stuck on traffic all the way to the other side of the city, that's the only open road so 90% of vehicles in the city came across on the same hi way.

Using his left hand, he took my right hand and told me "It's okay don't worry I'll make sure you'll see her." He said while smiled at me, I got an assurance from this moron, at some point i felt like He won't disappoint me.

I met Martin from the same dating app where I met Erin, Martin on the other hand is a cool person, he tried to flirt with me so many times but I didn't gave him any chance, I told him that he's a nice guy so don't be like other assholes around the city who only wants girls for fun, He's an educated guy so he knows and fully understood when I confessed about me, that I'm only attracted to same gender; I made sure he'll understand me and thankfully He respects and supports me for who I am.

After few more hours on the road, we finally reached a small village, houses are so cute, I was so amazed because I can only see those type of houses from Nat Geo or Al Jazeera, documentaries from small villages across the globe. I was so excited and couldn't hide the happiness as we continue drove and followed the screenshot of a map that Erin sent me last few days ago of her location.

"It's getting dark Yara how will we get into her place?" I asked while worrying because the signal on sim is still unstable and Erin is still unreachable. "We're fucking doomed" I added.

"Wait, I'll check our connection again" he replied. "Here finally, let's follow this map." I turned on the Google map and we turned left, slowly drove inside the street where there's so many people outside, it's almost 6:30 so everyone is getting ready for dinner, such a busy area it is. I saw women covered in what they called hijab or dupatta, only their faces or eyes can be seen, like being protected from lusty eyes of men around them.

We kept following the map and it led us in a very narrow street where all houses has no lights on, I feel like they're all sleeping and because I was so worried I told Martin to stop the car, I opened the door as walked towards 1 house, started knocking on each door hoping I can find Erin quickly.

"C'mon mann get back in the car this is a village, people won't understand you; let me do it the way it's supposed to be" Martin almost screamed at me because I don't want to listen to him.

"Maybe this is not her street" He added. "But we can't give up now it's been a long day Yar." I exclaimed in disappointment.

We drove back to the main street and asked couple of men standing outside their homes, Martin even left me for few minutes and told me not to leave the car no matter what because it's not a good area for women. After 3 minutes Martin came with an expression on his face I couldn't guess what's he's even thinking. I asked him what did he got.. "That old guy said let's turn right 2 streets away from here, there's a house under construction, let's try that" He finally said after asking him thousand times.

As we turned right in another narrow street, I quickly saw a familiar teenage boy I know it was Arham, Erin's 10 year old son, I got excited and told Martin to stop the car "It was him, it's Arham we wait I'm coming out I'll go to them" I told him and can't hid ny excitement anymore, I went ahead on their wide gate and started knocking.
