Attack of the Fairies (#2 in the All That Jazz series)

chapter 9 - too soon

"The mermaid Queen wants a conference next week to talk about the oil spill that happened three years ago. Apparently no one has done anything to stop it from coming into the ocean." Kim was reading through some reports she has gotten this morning, "The dark fairy queen isn't speaking to anyone. They think she's planning something, with what happened two weeks ago, I'm not surprised one bit."

I cut her off before she could continue, "What happened two weeks ago?"

She sighed, "Well, she was blaming the light fairy queen for ripping off some of her guards wings, but it wasn't any light fairies who did it. Just some Ploy's playing tricks. They didn't know that they killed the guards. They are currently going through a trial."

I let my mouth hang open. That was so horrible and Kim is talking like this is a regular thing.

"Moving on..."

"KIM!" Someone yelled before whipping open the door to her office. The girl was breathing heavily and was wearing some sort of armor. It was like gold armor, "We have a serious problem."

Kim stood up, "What is it now Alex?"

Alex looked at me, "Confidential information. Who is she?"

Kim rolled her eyes, "This is Jess, she's the next dragon rider."

Alex blinked a few times, "Okay, well you need to get to the central hospital in London. You won't believe it, so you have to see it with your own eyes."

Kim nodded, "Okay, come on Jess, lets get going."

Why does she keep calling me that? Oh well. I stood up and followed Kim and Alex out of the room. We walked down the hallway and back into the main room before walking into a different room. Kim through some fabric at me and I just managed to catch it.

"Put that on, it will make sure you on't die." Kim pointed to a door which I'm guessing is where I am supposed to get dressed. I walked into the room and could help but wonder what the problem was. Was someone really important hurt? Well after all, we are going to a hospital. 

The outfit I had gotten turned out to be something like Alex battle suit but mine was silver colored rather than gold. When I cam back out Kim was wearing the same thing but in gold. Why did I get silver? "Your still in training," Alex answered my question. Alrightly then...

I followed them once again back out to the main room where there was a few other people. Logan, Drew, Evan and another girl were there. But this girl had... wings...

"Hey Emma!" Kim smiled as she hugged the winged girl, "I haven't seen you in like forever."

Emma laughed, "Its because your too busy."

Kim frowned at her but didn't take long to smile. "Okay, well we better get going."

Logan walked over to me and held out his hand. I raised my eye brow at him, but grabbed his hand. In a flash of light we were sanding in a hospital lobby. "Show off," I muttered. He heard he and laughed. The others were soon here as well.

Kim went and talked to the receptionist and there were some dark shadows coming up from the floor. They looked really creepy so I took a step closer to Logan who wrapped his arm arounf my waist, "Don't worry, they may look scary but their really nice at heart."

There was a laugh and a girl with long black hair wearing hardly anything was standing where the smoky stuff just was. She had dirt all over her too, "Are we really that nice, Logan?"

I saw Logan roll his eyes, "Okay, sometimes they are nice, but they won't hurt you."

A girl around my age was standing beside her and three other guys with no shirts on were standing behind them. Then there was this little shriveled up man standing on the other side of the dark haired girl. "Hi, I'm Lana." She smiled at me and held out her hand.

I honestly didn't want to skake it so I curtsied, "I'm Princess Jessica."

She raised her eye brow and smiled, "A Princess, how sweet."

Logan and I both looked at each other and rolled our eyes. She was really starting to creep me out though. "This is my trainee, Chloe. She at the same stage as you are."

Chole gave me a little wave but then looked back at the ground. I think Chloe might be nicer to me than this Lana girl. Chloe just doesn't scare me as much. Lana gave me a bow, which was horrible by the way, and walked over to where Kim was. We all stood there in awkward silence till the little wrinkly man decided to talk, "Ssssoooo... Shhettt foooeee meeeckkkk."

I furrowed my eye brows, what the hell did he say? The blonde haired guy smacked him upside the head, "Lana didn't bring you here to talk." He spat and I just stared at him wide eyed.

Lana and Kim both came back over to us eventually with pale faces. "Um, Jessica, please come with me." Kim didn't look at me before turning and walking away. I guess I'm going to have to follow her. She lead me down the hallways all the way to a room that was almost empty.

Note how I said almost.

There was two cribs in the center of the room, "What is this?" I whispered to Kim.

She looked at me with sad eyes, "This is way too soon."

I walked over to the cribs and looked down. In one there was a dark haired baby girl looking at me with bright purple eyes. In the other one was a blonde haired girl with bright green eyes. My mouth fell open as I looked back and forth between the two new-born babies, "Is this...?"

I looked at Kim who was looking at the ground, "Their back," She whispered.

The blonde one started to cry so I leaned into the crib and whiped the tears from her face. I started to 'sh' her. It was working until she looked right into my eyes and I felt alone. Why did I feel alone? I took a step back and the whole room was silent. "Kim," I looked towards her.

Kim looked up at me, "What?"

"Am I supposed to feel... alone?"

She looked at me with a confused face, but then smiled, "Fianlly! Something good can come out of this day!"

She engulfed me in a hug, "What are you talking about?"

She laughed, "YOUR NOT GOING TO DIE!"

She then proceded to dance around the room like a crazy maniac. Lana and Chloe chose this time to walk into the room, "What are you doing?" Lana looked at Kim like she was on drugs. Well actually, she did look like she was on drugs.

"Jess is okay! She can feel Bullet's enotions! She isn't going to die! Whoo!" Kim kept dancing as she made her way into the hallway.

"Umm.." I blinked a few times, "I'm going to make sure she doesn't break anything."

Lana laughed as I made my way out of the room.
