Clarke grabbed a bottle of water and went outside, feeling very worried about Lexa. Obviously, she would have preferred to continue talking about what had happened with Costia, but she knew she had to give Lexa a little more time to do it on her own terms. However, drowning her sorrow in alcohol didn't seem like the best idea at all; It could end badly, and Clarke wasn't about to let it happen.
She stopped in the backyard and looked around, trying to locate Lexa among the guests. There were quite a few people, costumes of all kinds that managed to distract her in her search in the semi-darkness, so it took her a few minutes to find Lexa on the other side of the pool talking to... Gaia? Or perhaps it was an Egyptian goddess?
The dark-skinned girl looked amazing, standing next to Lexa; The white and gold one-piece suit made of stretch fabric fitted Gaia's body around her chest and waist, leaving very little to the imagination, and she wore a large necklace with jewels and a tiara in her hair, a Boho style pendant and matching long earrings. The open skirt started at her waist and reached down to her ankles, simulating a robe that Lexa was touching in an attitude that made Clarke feel a bit anxious to find out what was going on there.
It was just as Gaia turned around, showing Lexa the rest of her outfit, when she saw Clarke looking at them with a rather serious demeanor as she approached.
Gaia stopped spinning, causing her robe to slip from Lexa's hands. The blonde could detect Gaia's nervousness manifesting itself in the tension of her shoulders and in the surprise of her eyes that widened, as if she had not expected to see her there.
Lexa, on the other hand, had barely noticed Clarke's arrival and continued to admire Gaia's costume as she caressed the golden bracelet on her arm and complimented her makeup; she had lined her eyes with black eyeliner, using a turquoise shadow on her eyelids.
"Wow ... it's like I'm being teleported to Ancient Egypt," Lexa said, sounding a bit drunk.
A strange sensation clenched in the pit of Clarke's stomach, feeling a lot like annoyance.
"Hey ..." she greeted them. "Am I interrupting something?" she asked, looking at the brunette.
"Uh ... hi," Gaia stammered, admiring Clarke's costume. "No, no ... we were just ..."
"Don't you think that Gaia looks spectacular tonight?" Lexa replied, pointing at Gaia's outfit with her hand.
Gaia smiled nervously and raised her hand to scratch the back of her head.
"Nah... you're exaggerating..." she said shyly.
"Well, I love it ... Clarke?"
"Uh ... yeah, did you make it yourself?" the blonde asked distractedly, directing her attention to Lexa and the cocktail she was holding in her hand.
"No, no ... I bought it on Amazon."
There was a moment of silence; Lexa smiled broadly, looking first at Gaia and then at Clarke. However, Clarke seemed so focused on something else that she completely missed Gaia's eyes roaming blatantly over her body.
"I brought you some water," Clarke said to Lexa, offering her the bottle.
"Nah! I'm good..." the brunette replied, raising her glass right before she brought it to her lips and drank the rest of the content. "I should get some more, I guess" she added, laughing. "I'll be right back."
"Lexa ..."
"It'll be a second, wait here ..." she said as she started walking backward.
Gaia found the dynamic between them a bit strange, and she instinctively looked at Clarke, her eyes inquiring about what was going on with Lexa.
