By the time he finished the first pile of paperwork, it was already 1 in the afternoon. He sighed and dragged the second pile over.
While writing on the paperwork, he noticed the fine print saying 'anything written can be used against you if written by or given to an unauthorized personnel.' He looked at that sentence for a while before huffing and focusing harder on what he was writing. He went through organizing the papers and putting the finished ones in a separate pile. After some time, his pen ran out of ink. He tried to force the ink into the ball point, but the ink was dry. With a sudden burst of anger, he broke it in half and threw it in the trash. After he calmed down, he grabbed another pen and continued writing.
After a while, he looked at the clock, it was almost 5 pm. He looked at all the work he still had left to do and sighed as he continued working.
After a couple more hours, he got bored and picked up a book from the bookshelf. He looked at the cover, it was titled "Becoming a More Effective Leader". He shrugged and began reading it.
In the book, it described that being a leader means more than just having power or authority over others. Being a leader is someone who puts their best foot forward in leading and influencing others. He became intrigued and continued reading. The book further explained the characteristics of being an effective leader: One who is strong and courageous, who takes pride in what they do but are also humble and selfless to others. One who is knowledgeable yet eager to learn; thinks tactically, rationally, and efficiently even in tough situations; shows kindness and respect towards others and is also decisive and eager to communicate. All of these apply to becoming an effective leader, but there is one more characteristic more important than the others that is a must have in order to be a more effective and reliable leader in any situation, and that is someone who is able to lead themselves just as effectively as they would lead others since how a leader leads others is a direct reflection of how they lead themselves.
He then became fully invested in the book. He read it for a couple hours, focusing on the book rather than finishing his paperwork.
After a while, he looked at the time and remembered the ceremony he had to go to tonight. He quickly put the book away, finished the rest of his paperwork, and cleared his desk afterwards. Then he hurried into the dining hall where the ceremony was being held.
When he arrived, he saw all the members of the Spherian cabinet, along with Chief Official Debian, Chief Advisor Napier, some members of the Supreme Court, and some other officials and soldiers.
"Oh hey Orb Leader, you made it." Debian said.
"Hello.. So what is everyone doing?"
"Oh we're just waiting for a few others to arrive. We will begin shortly. In the meantime, get to know a few members of the cabinet, your chair is over there also if you want to sit down before we start."
"Okay, thank you."
"No problem."
He went over to a member of the cabinet.
"Hello."
