~C21-Enzo's Past~

~THIRD PERSON POV~

Enzo couldn't control his anger after seeing the face of the friend who helped his keep his humanity when they were captured by the doctors of Augustine. However, when they were supposed to escape the place was set a fire and he watched his friend turn off his back and leave him in fire as it scorched his skin.

He felt the pain but he couldn't do anything as the cage was covered in vervain and he was too weak. He felt someone drag him out of the fire as he was about to lose consciousness and he thought it was his friend who turned back to save him but oh was he wrong.

His unconscious body was dragged out of the building by Doctor Whitmore's predecessor  and placed in a vehicle where was carried to a new facility to continue his experiments. Waking up to find that he was once again in a cell, the weak vampire sigh as he knew this was his fate. Coming to this realization, the vampire sat down in the corner as the light that shone in eyes were replaced by now dull lifeless eyes.

Since that day he was subjugated to different tortures as he was cut open left to bleed as they either took his blood or part of his flesh. All of it was very painful as he was always heavily sedated with vervain and was fed only once a week with little amount of blood.

He was losing his humanity when he remembered his past, about how he  met her. His first love Maggie James, a human who worked for the Augustine society in the 1950s. When he first met her he didn't trust her and didn't want her near him either.

He hated that she would constantly try to talk to him or see his reaction but he wouldn't show any reaction. Maggie was growing fund of the vampire so she tried finding ways to make him talk to her. Determined, Maggie would tell Doctor that she would start giving the vampire his food to which he reluctantly agreed as he didn't trust vampires and knew they always had something up their sleeves.

To catch the attention of the vampire with lifeless eyes she would cut her hand and give him more blood that the amount he would usually receive. Now Enzo noticed that he was getting more blood but he thought it was their doing as they were planning something. However, one day he noticed that Maggie would always come to him with one of her hand wrapped up and bandaged with the scent of blood still remaining.

He tried to confront her about it to which she would only reply that she hurt herself at home by accident. He knew she was lying as her heard her heart jump when he asked and for the first time in years he began to worry about someone else.

Eventually she would start carrying food for him along with drinks that contained a few drops of blood. Seeing the young woman looking pale he finally realised that all along she was feeding him her blood and for the first time his heart started to beat for the woman. He persuaded her not to do that again and to stop. He didn't need it however, the woman tried to disagree but seeing that the vampire wouldn't budge she finally gave up.

Since then, he started to trust the human girl as they decided to get to know each other. Maggie used the observation time to get to know details about the vampire as she was only tasked with observing the vampire's  behave and not the torturous experiments.

Much time has past and the love between the vampire and human developed. One evening they even confessed their love for each other and Enzo who knew she wasn't his fated pair didn't care as he truly loved the woman. They shared kisses, hug and laughed which didn't go unnoticed by one of the doctor but he was told to not say anything.

Maggie would deep down feel powerless as she couldn't free her lover from his cage not knowing about the experiments as Enzo knew she would try to free him and he didn't want her to get hurt in the process. However, what he didn't expect was that one day during his torture, Maggie saw the doctors injecting large amounts of vervain into his system as they cut his flesh for testing.

Frightened by the sight, the young doctor wanted to rush in and save her love only for him to shake his indicating for her not to. Powerless, Maggie couldn't could only hide in the shadows as she covered her mouth to cover up sobs so she wouldn't be found out.

A few hours after being transported back to his cell Enzo watched as his love rushed in to comfort him. She couldn't stand the thought of him going through all that pain and she couldn't do anything to help. She begged and pleaded with her vampire lover to turn her so she could help him escape but he didn't want to subject her to such a fate. He did the hardest thing he has every done in life and compelled the love of his life to forget about everything she saw and knew that happened at Augustine and to forget about him and leave.

A tear dropped from his eye as he saw the love of his life turn and leave him as he dropped to the floor and began crying.
