Chapter One:
Emperor's Smile

Since a very young age Wei Kexing has been taking care of his older brother Wuxian. If you didn't know the two personally you would think Kexing was the oldest.

Wei Wuxian the brave social butterfly of a big brother, and Wei Kexing his unbearably formal little brother who took every punishment and harsh word for Wuxian.

It started after their parents died, Kexing was the one to calm his brother down after a fight with stingy dogs who attacked them for food. He was the one to find them shelter and attempt to beg for food around Yiling.

"Stay here Gege, I'll keep you safe." A little A-Xing said to his brother with a soft smile on his face, it made Wuxian pout.

"I'm not three Didi! I'm older than you I should take care of you." The other boy just laughed shaking his head.

"And have you face against dogs? No. Stay. A-Xing will be back."

No room for arguing or talk backs was exactly how the little boy liked to do things. He was far too clever for his own good and knew way more than the average 4 year old should.

Most would say he was like his father in that area. Extremely smart and silver tongued, charming when he needed to be.

And when the two brothers were scooped up into the Jiang Sect that is exactly how he had to be. Especially around Madame Yu who hated the two boys simply because of their mother.

"How dare you win against my son!" The older woman screamed at Wei Wuxian who stood paralysed not knowing what to do. All he was trying to do was spar with his Shidi, what was wrong with that?

Before he knew it his little brother was on his knees bowed in front of the seething woman.

"Madame Yu please forgive my brother and myself, Gege did not mean to win." Little A-Xing lifted his head. "If you wish to punish Wei Wuxian I would like to take the punishment for him."

And he did. Every. Single. Time.

Every time Wei Wuxian bad mouthed someone of importance or got into a fight with somebody Wei Kexing was right beside him with his wide smile and promises of taking punishment.

Scars and bruises soon littered his body over the years. Not that he would ever let anybody see them.

Today was just like any other day it seemed.

Wei Kexing was walking with Jiang Yanli and Jiang Cheng to where Wei Wuxian was lounged around. He smiled at the sight of his big brother.

"Wei Wuxian! Hurry up, we have to find an available Inn!" Wei Kexing whined a bit sticking his foot out to prod at his brother before being pulled away by Jiang Cheng.

"Ah ah, Shidi, leave Wei Wuxian be. He'll probably drown himself in liquor and stay put we won't have to worry about him."

Wei Kexing giggled nodding at his Shixiong, looping their arms together. From beside them Jiang Yanli sighed playfully.

"A-Xian, come on we have to go." As expected, Wei Wuxian lifted his head at his sisters voice making his two younger brothers pout.

"Gege! Why do you only listen to Shijie!" Kexing much like his older brother was whining about how unfair his circumstances were. He stomped his foot like a child, something he'd only ever do in the presence of his siblings, and stalked off shouting over his shoulder about finding an Inn for them.

Jiang Cheng scoffed looking after his little brother before softening turning back to Wei Wuxian and Jiang Yanli.

"Should I go after him?"

Their sister patted his cheek.

"A-Xing will be fine, let him explore a little okay?"

Jiang Cheng nodded his head pursing his lips. He knew his sister was right but he'd always be protective of Wei Kexing.

Meanwhile Wei Kexing was in awe at the lands around him.

Him and his siblings had come to learn more cultivation from Gusu Lan Sect, Kexing thought it would be a boring stay but it seemed like more amd more surprises sprung up on him.

But before he could go back to marvelling at everything around him a small figure jumped on him, his fan falling from his hand and clattering to the floor.

"Wei Kexing!" Came the voice of his best friend Nie Huaisang. It made him grin widely.

Spinning around with the small man in his arms he then saw his other friend Meng Yao and practically squealed.

Setting Huaisang down he pulled Meng Yao into a tight hug kissing his dimpled cheek.

"I've missed the both of you so much!" He slung his arms around both of their shoulders pouting. "What ever would I do in this land without my soulmate and the dimpled cutie?"

He kept pouting, sticking his bottom lip out when his two friends started to laugh at him.

"Ya! What happened to the formal, polite Meng Yao and the shy timid Huaisang?" He hoped that would shut the two up but just huffed when he saw both were still going, knowing it was out of the ordinary for the Wei boy to act so shameless out in public. So he directed his attention solely to Meng Yao. "Are you going to stay with us? Or do you have to go back after sending Huaisang here?"

There was a sadness in his voice representing his mood, that only got worse when his dimpled friend gave him a sad smile and nod of his head.

Kexing sighed kissing his cheek again, being the shameless best friend he is, and started walking with the two boys.

"Well until then I'm going to treat you both. Kind of." He pulled away from them picking his fan from the floor spreading it out to fan himself. "I'm going to steal Wuxian's Emperor's Smile!"

He giggled to himself seeing Meng Yao's shock and Nie Huaisang's wide eyes.

Wei Kexing would be damned if he didn't get to have the best night with his two best friends before the real stuff started.
