Chapter Three
First Time for EverythingAbsolutely everything went wrong.
After what had felt like forever sitting on the floor drowning in his thoughts his older brother finally arrived to collect him. Although he was accompanied by a deadpanned looking Lan.
Immediately Wei Kexing stood up and bowed to the man.
"Hello, are you here to allow me inside or to kick my older brother out?" The white clad man just raised an eyebrow, though it was minuscule only those experted in micro facial expressions would see it, and turned to his brother who had began laughing.
"Don't you have any faith in your brother A-Qiang? Of course I got us in, who do I look like?" He wrapped an arm around his still flushed brother who turned to him with a straight face.
"You look like a rule breaker who has a plain disregard to others wants and needs currently." He turned back to the Lan. "What is your name if I may ask?"
"Lan Zhan, courtesy name Wangji."
Almost instantly the 13 year old felt the urge to facepalm and then throw himself into the sun. He slowly turned his head staring into Wei Wuxian's eyes sporting the deadliest look.
"Of course you are." He replied to the Lan, eyes trained on his shorter brother. "Why Wei Wuxian? No, no that is the wrong sentence. Sorry, what I meant is that only you could do this."
He shrugged his brother off his shoulder walking towards Lan Wangji feeling more sober and more annoyed by the second.
"Only you could not only break so many rules AND run into one of the Twin Jades at the same time." He pinched the bridge of his nose, all of the giddy smiles and fun he had felt earlier was completely washed away. The sigh that escaped him felt heavy as he addressed Lan Wangji again. "Wei Qiang, courtesy name Kexing. Please show us to where we need to be to deal with punishments Second Young Master Lan."
All he got was a small 'Mn' and a nod before the two brothers were following the Twin Jade to a place holding who Wei Kexing believed to be Lan Qiren and Lan Xichen.
Even though his older brother seemed to know absolutely nothing about the land they would be staying in for quite a while Kexing read up on anything and everything he would need to know.
And honestly, he was practically shaking at the thought of just how many rules out of 3,000 and something his big brother had broken.
As soon as the two boys were in front of Grandmaster Lan, Wei Kexing was on his knees bowing down to the floor before him.
"This one apologizes greatly on the behalf of my brother and myself for any and all rules we have broken. I, myself, apologize for entering Gusu while harboring alcohol in my system and will accept any forms of punishment given to me." He had talked so fast he was practically out of breath, but at the same time he was too afraid to breathe loudly for fear he would break another rule.
Kexing slowly leaned up, still in his kneeling position, with his arms out.
"I would also like to request to take any punishment that is in Wei Wuxian's name, as I will also take it upon myself to learn and teach to him all of the rules of Gusu and enforce them onto him to make sure another incident such as this does not happen again."
Even as the affects of alcohol weighed over him he spoke in such a manor that even had Wei Wuxian stumped.
Speaking of, the boy leaned over whispering to his brother.
"Even when you're drunk you still look after your Gege don't you?"
If annoyance were the embodiment of a person then everyone present could only assume it was Wei Kexing, as in that very moment he turned his head slightly in his brothers direction giving him a glare so fierce that the older could only shut up as to save himself.
And from the corner of his eye he swore he saw a hint of amusement from Lan Xichen but it was gone long before it arrived.
"Do you ever shut up?" Wei Kexing hissed quietly before turning to Lan Wangji and bowing, much to the young boys surprise. "This one apologizes to Second Young Master Lan for any trouble my older brother may have caused you, and any disrespectful or shameless comments he may have made in your presence."
He leaned back up, more annoyance present on his face.
"I know just how much Wei Wuxian has a tendency to get under peoples skin."
Before he could make any more comments against his brother or attempt to try to even apologize to Lan Xichen directly, Grandmaster Lan spoke up.
"What is your name?" He peered at the boy who looked and acted so much like his father that the resemblance was uncanny, like his brother was to his mother.
Kexing briefly smiled at Lan Qiren and bowed again.
"Wei Qiang, courtesy name Kexing Grandmaster Lan."
The old man just nodded to himself as he scanned both siblings, the instant dislike he had started to hold over the older of the two and the fondness he held for the younger affecting his next decision.
"Wei Kexing, you are free to go and rest. You will not be getting a punishment as you did not mean to do anything wrong though now that you know do not expect to be let free if you do it again." He paused before speaking again. "I must also decline your request to take your brother's punishment as it goes against our rules. Since he has broken so many of our rules Lan Wangji will be the one to handle his punishment."
Kexing looked as though he was about to object and speak his mind but Lan Qiren spoke again.
"You may leave."
All protests died in his throat as he slowly rose from the ground, him and his brother shooting identical looks of alarm at each other before Lan Xichen was instructed to lead him to where he would be staying for the rest of his learning.
They say that there was a first for everything, and this had been the first time that Wei Kexing wasn't allowed to take his older brothers punishment.
He just hoped that the Twin Jade of Gusu would take some form of pity on his brother. But he knew deep down this would not be the case.
