When I woke up the next morning, I expected my sister to still be fast asleep but no, instead I found her beating up a poor punching bag at Alaric's. "Hey, I brought coffee. Who wants some?" I called as I entered Ric's apartment. "Oh please, thanks Cassie you're a lifesaver!" Elena called rushing towards me giving me a light hug before taking the coffee from my hand. "You're welcome, early-bird" I handed the other coffee to Ric. "Thanks, Cass, I appreciate it." He said "No problemo"

"So what's your plans for today El?" I inquired, "It's your friend Carolines birthday isn't it?" Elena nodded lifting up a bag filled with party decorations "Yeah, how did you remember? Bonnie and I are going to decorate Care's locker before she arrives at school." I smiled, glad that they at least had something normal going on in their lives. "That sounds great, I assume you're all going to hang out after school as well?" She nodded. "Of course, what about you any plans?" I grinned, excited for my day. "Well, of course, I don't have any work I need to get done today but I am meeting my old friend Nikola. You remember her right? We used to do scouts together, she emailed me a couple of weeks ago asking if we could meet up." Elena smiled back at me. "That's great, of course, I remember her! Hope you have fun!" I almost laughed. "Thanks, you too. You don't need a lift to school do you El?" I asked instead. "No, I'm all good. Be safe and watch out for Klaus!"

I left the building, a wide smile on my face.

Time to go visit Nikola.

~

Cassie: Hey, I'm on my way!

Nikola: Great, you like cupcakes right?

Cassie: Uh of course I do! Did you get some for me? Aww you're so sweet!!

Nikola: I did not.

Cassie: Oh.

Cassie: HOW DARE YOU PLAY WITH MY FEELINGS THIS WAY!

Cassie: We're done!

Cassie: Goodbye!

Nikola: So... see you in five?

Cassie: Yeah

"Nicolaaaaaa" I yelled out in front of the big house. "Nicolaaaaaaaaaaaa"

"Why the bloody hell are you screaming that for Cassandra?" Nik asked from behind me, scaring the life out of me. "Nicola!" I cheered, while he gave me a wtf look.

"Are you going to explain why you are calling me that or should I just pretend I didn't hear it?" Nik questioned in a highly confused tone. "That's your code name. Since I hate you now, my sister thinks I'm hanging out with my old friend Nicola!" I explained. "Do you have an old friend named Nicola?" I laughed "lol no I don't." I can't believe Elena believed me. "Oh bloody hell, Cassie. So you told your sister that you're out with someone who doesn't actually exist and she believed you?" He asked doubtfully. "She did! I was quite surprised myself, to be honest" I told him with a laugh. "I'm sorry to tell you this Cass, but your sister isn't very bright" I waved him off "She's still in high school, she's learning." Nik gave me a questioning look "She and that group of hers seem to spend more time out of school than they do in school." Huh. Do they? "No, I'm sure they don't"  Nik chuckled "Come on inside."

Nik showed me around his partly built house and I even introduced myself to some of his hybrid minions. Afterwards, he lead me down a trail behind the mansion towards a little pond where I declared we would have a picnic. Nik did in fact have cupcakes for me, this is why we are best friends.

"El got Damon to compel Jeremy to leave town, to live with some old family friends in Denver," I told my friend as I lay on the grass, my head resting on his lap. "And you don't want him to leave?" Nik asked, I sighed. "I know that change will be good for him, but she took away his choice and didn't even consult with me first. I'm the older sister, their guardian and Elena didn't even think before making the decision on her own." I explained to him. "That's fair, she should have talked to you about it. But at least you can take comfort in the fact that you know the change of scenery will be good for your brother." He tried to comfort me. "You know it's technically your fault that he's being sent away, right?" Nik nudged me off him. "Hey, I apologised and promised that I would not harm the boy. It is not my fault your sister doesn't trust me." I rolled my eyes at Nik. "No one trusts you." He raised an eyebrow at me. "Except for you dear best friend." I think I do, but how far does my trust for him really go?

"Yeah I trust you, but only the type of trust that you give a grandpa because of the wisdom he has acquired in old age except that you're just a grandpa with none of the old wisdom." I laughed jumping up, to be safe after insulting my best friends intelligence. "Oh yeah? I'll have you know that I am very wise." Nik told me crossing his arms. I pretended to think about it for a moment. "Ah, no. I don't think so." I simply said hiding my laughter behind a smile. "Are you sure?" Nik asked moving towards me. "Yes I am definitely su-eeeekkk" Before I could finish my sentence I was lifted into his arms and before I knew it I was being held above the pond. "No! Don't you dare Niklaus!" It was to late I had be thrown into the air, but not before I gripped Nik. We are best friends, neither falls without the other. Mwahahaha.

"Cassie!" Nik laughed as he coughed up water. "You'll never win against me Nik, I am too wise for you to keep up!" I trenched out of the stinky pond water, yuck! He owes me a million cupcakes for this!

"Sure Cass, you are sooo much smarter than me. For what could I have learned in the hundreds of years that I have been alive, that you couldn't have in the two decades you have been." I patted him on the back. "I'm glad you've finally accepted it."

Nik went to say something else when he suddenly held up a hand. "I need you to stay here until I come back." He said, then disappeared. Great, I'm cold, wet and alone. By the time ten minutes had passed, I started heading back up to the house tired of waiting. When I entered the house I found one of Niks hybrids Mindy decapitated on the ground. "I thought I told you to stay by the pond," Nik asked from behind me. I gasped. "Stop scaring me like that! What the hell happened here?" I questioned, desperately looking away from Mindy's body. "Stefan showed up. It appears he doesn't like my hybrids. He wants them gone." Nik explained. "Did he say anything about giving you back your family?" He shook his head. "He clearly has no intentions of returning them to me anytime soon, but he will. Don't you worry about that though, I've already one of my hybrids to assist me."

Nik and I spent the rest of the day together, all together it was a lovely day with the exception of the decapitated hybrid that I found. I went back home in the evening, I had been invited to the Founders party by Carol Lockwood since I wrote all of her speeches for her but I decided to go. I would have gone with Nik but of course, that would ruin the whole 'I hate Klaus' charade.

I had made myself some dinner and was watching a movie when I got a call from a hysterical Elena asking me to come pick her up from Wickery Bridge. I immediately got in the car and hurried down there, where I found my sister with tears streaming down her face. "Oh sweetheart, come here." I jumped out and pulled her into a tight hug as she cried in my arms, telling me all had happened today.

How dare Stefan, who had once loved Elena do such a thing to her - He calls Klaus a monster, well he should have a look at himself.
