"How long until we're there?" Corvin says excitedly, at times he really his like a puppy.
"We'll be there before sunrise, so a couple of hours, could you check on Coop?" I ask him quietly, remembering he was with us. When we had rescued Candice's pack members, Coop had decided to stay with us. Both their protective ways have started to get worse. Coop even bit Corvin when he tried to drink the last blood bag on board.
Corvins head quickly disappears below deck before appearing again almost immediately.
"He's fine, he's fast asleep, now stop changing the subject." He says as his arm slides around my waist.
"I didn't change the subject, you asked a question, I answered." I say my voice filled with amusement.
"You only answered one question." Corvins voice fills with a primal emotion, but I can't pin what it is.
"Corvin, even if I say yes, it's not like we can do much afterwards. I don't think they do vampire marriages, nevermind if the groom is a legendary lycan. Just like..." I pause and turn to look at him, sympathy fills me as his eyes look like they're fighting back tears,
"...I don't think it needs to be said but, it's not like kids will ever be on the agenda. My body is frozen in the 1540's, shit other than my clothes and hair, nothing about me has changed. I'm still the same girl I've always been, I've just seen and learned much more than normal people over the ye-" Corvin stop my words as his lips come crushing down ontop of mine. I feel a deep need and urgency in his lips, I don't want to, but I pull myself away.
Before I have a chance to speak he cuts me off.
"I don't care what anybody says, or what normal people get married for. I want you, with me, forever. You and Coop, why would I ever need more." His voice drips with sadness, I speak before I can stop myself, anything to make him happy, to make that sadness dissappear, to stop the pain I feel in my chest when I see the sadness in his eyes.
"Yes..."
Silence. Silence is all that follows. I can't look up at his face, just incase the frosty green pools, that are his eyes, where still filled with unshed tears, sadness, rejection, my heart couldn't take it.
It feels like the seconds are hours, the minutes seem to drag on for days. I'm just about to speak again, but Corvin catches me off-guard. His hands find my waist and hoist me up off the floor, he twirls me around, and his lips find mine for a quick, breath stealing kiss.
"You mean it? It can just be us three if you want?" I've never heard so much delight in his voice, like a child on christmas morning.
As the thought enters my head, my face turns serious once more. He places me back down behind the wheel, and tries to contain his excitement.
"Wait, I know you say it doesn't matter now, but at some point you are going to want kids. Although I won't be a great help in that department," a great sadness I didn't think I had filled my heart as the words leave my mouth.
"I'm just saying, at that point I give you my word, no matter what it takes, you will have children. I can't deny you of one of the worlds most incredible joys, and when that time comes, don't worry about me so much. I will be fine." I can see anger and confusion fill his face.
His lips part in an attempt to speak, but one swift finger is enough to stop him. His lips, so soft under my finger, I almost lose my train of thought.
"That is my one condition, or as much as it hurts me, I'd have to leave." I see him wince as my words reach him. He takes ahold of my hand, and pulls my finger away, after a small soft kiss planted on the tip, he says.
"Then that is a condition I will just have to agree to, but don't count yourself out, you're feeling warmer and warmer everyday." He chuckles deeply in my ear, causing my body to fill with warmth.
"That's to be expected when i've got a living breathing hot water bottle constantly wrapping his arms around me." I say giggling, as his arms wrap once more around my waist.
We sail for another 3 hours or so before i finally see the dock. I can't stop the wave of nastalgia as i see my first home. How different it looks, so much has changed, but what will always be the same is the way i feel everytime i come back here. The memories of my childhood, usually stay locked away, but whenever i'm here they flood back to the front of my mind.
"We're here." I call over to Corvin and Coop, who're currently lay sunning themselves on the deck. They're lucky we arrived in the summer, Englands not the warmest place to to live, but it's home.
"And where is here my love?" Corvin asks as he opens one eye towards the dock.
"My home, England, i haven't been back in centuries, it all looks different but, in a way, it all feels the same." I inhale deeply and slowly pull the boat up at the dock. "Corvin, could you grab the black bag from beneath the bed, i'll find out how much it'll be to dock for a few days, and see if we're not better off at a different dock, all these boats look pretty huge so i can't see it being too cheap." As i tie the boat up and jump off onto the dock, Coop's whine makes me turn back. "I'll be back in a minute Coop, don't worry so much, you're going to love it here." I take two steps away from the boat, before his whine gets louder and more demanding. "Okay, fine, but no running off, you stay by my side. Understood?" His tail begins to wag furiously as i reach over and scoop him up. The moment his paws touch the ground, he starts darting back and forth, sniffing everything he can, before returning back to me.
Coop and i strole over to a boat rental shack, a middle aged man, stood to take a quick look at the boat we had shown up on and then sat back down.
"You're new around here, what brings you to our quaint little town?" He asked as his eyes moved back down to the fishing magazine he had been reading previously.
"I'm from a little further up north, but we've been at sea for awhile now, so we planned to find somehwere to sleep and get back to it in a few days. How much is it to dock here for 2 or 3 days?" His eyes shot up as he realised we were sticking around.
"Well, it's not too much for the small 'uns, so i would say no more than 40 or 50 pounds love, but it all depends on if you're planning on staying on your boat or, if you're trying to get a room." Before he had finished speaking Corvin had retrieved the bag, shoes and a shirt, and caught up with us. He had yet to put his shirt on, he seemed happy enough to leave it off, so he flung it over his shoulder.
"I've locked everything up, any luck?" Corvin asks softly as he approaches us.
"Yeah, Mr....?" I begin to say before realising that i hadn't even asked his name. "I'm sorry sir, i didn't get your name," His smile is warm, yet it hides something.
"Terry, you can call me Terry." His gazes flicks from me to Corvin before gazing down at the scruffy bundle of fur that is Coop.
"Well Terry was just letting me know that the prices for docking are cheaper than i thought, do you know any hotels in the area that will allow dogs? Or are we better off staying on the boat?"
"The only place 'round 'ere that'll let you house a mutt is a small b'n'b down the road there, if he ain't house trained he'll have to stay out back in the kennels though." There seemed to be slight disgust in his voice as he spoke about Coop.
"Erm... Thanks, he's fully housed trained though, so it should be fine, we'll have to nip down and see what they say."
As we arrive in front of the B'N'B, i regret our choice of staying on land, the place doesn't look like much, but it wasn't the look that was the problem. The smell brought with it the worst de'ja'vu, my head started to swim with the bad memories. Before i have the chance to suggest finding somewhere else, Corvin ushers me inside. It's then that i realise the smell. That awful smell that came with the worst beast i've met yet, Shifters.
