We sit at the stern, our feet dangling carelessly into the water. Corvin hugs me close too him, I have barely spoken since we left the campsite. We had taken any valuables, and set the car on fire.
"Did you know them? I just don't understand why you would feel guilty." He says softly, the guilt had shown on my face the whole way back. Corvin had been trying too get an answer out of me the entire way, but i just shrugged my shoulders and continued walking.
Toms clothes fit Corvin perfectly, and I had managed not to get any blood on them. I snuggle into him more, making him pull me closer. "Please Zara, just talk too me." He pleads with me. I exhale loudly and lean my head back against his shoulder.
"I don't know, I think it's because it's been so long since I fed from a human. I felt sorry for them, not the women. Those slags deserved what they got, but they wanted too help me. Usually when i do that act, they try taking advantage, but...I don't know. I could hear the honesty in his voice whilst I was deceiving them." I turn towards Corvin slightly, and look in his eye's. "I don't know, I think we could've found more evil people. I don't like killing those who I would class innocent. I just don't think it's right." I say quietly, i search his eyes too try and find some understanding. What I find shocks me, compassion and admiration.
"You're a very rare find Zara, a very rare find indeed." He says with a smile.
"I'm a vampire, i'm pretty sure I'm not that rare of a find." I say as i turn back towards the ocean. Only my head is forced too stop, Corvin's fingers take ahold of my chin and turn me back too face him. His face is quite serious.
"You aren't a regular vampire my love. You are the mate of the Legendary White Lycan, you have Special Blood, you are the only vampire in the known world with a conscience. You don't understand how special you are, do you?" A small smile starts too tug at the corner of his mouth.
I had never stopped too think about it before, my life had always been as normal as any other vampires. I had never really made a huge thing from hunting humans, i stuck too blood bags as much as I could. I have always thought guilty people deserved too die, they should not get off as easily as they do now.
"I'm not rare, yeah when you put it like it sounds crazy, but they're all coincidences. I was braught up too respect all living things, they give me life. So when they don't deserve it, i do get sympathetic towards them." I say softly, trying too convince myself as much as Corvin.
"Your mate is right." A husky female voice says from the dock. We both stand and turn towards her. "I'm terribly sorry, I didn't mean to scare you. I am Sacha, you may not remember me, but we have met." She says softly, as I look into her eyes, i'm greeted with a familiar reddish-brown.
"No, I remember you. It's not everyday I have a dog react like that too me." I say warmly, as i look towards Corvin I giggle. He has the most confused look on his face. "She's a shapeshifter," I say quietly, before turning back to Sacha. "You stay permanently as a dog, the old man's dog. Why?" I ask as I walk too the bow of the boat.
"My whole family was slaughtered in America, i found out my only living relative was human. So i found out where he lived, when I finally found him i didn't know what too do. Then I found out he had a dog and well let's just say, I replaced her." She says with a smile. I feel anger rise in my stomach. "Do not confuse my happiness with what I just told you. I am a shapeshifter, part animal. Any animal death is a painful loss too our world." She says in a solemn tone.
"So why go too all the trouble, why not pretend too be a stray?" I say inquisatively.
"I tried for awhile, but he just ignored me. Then when he finally acknowledged me, it was too fire a shot to the ground nearby. He thought I was after his chickens." She rubs the back of her neck and smirks slightly. "But your mate is right, you aren't a normal vampire, far from one." She says with a smile, her eyes glisten with excitement.
"What do you know about it?" I say defensively.
"Not much, but all shapeshifters know the story. We get told it as a child, I always dreamed what it would be like too meet you both, but never in my wildest dreams did I ever think it would happen." She walks closer too my boat, and sits at the edge of the dock.
"Could you tell us the story?" I ask as I sit down on the bow of the boat, I feel Corvin shadow my movement and pull me onto his lap.
"Of course, may I?" Sacha gestures too the boat.
"It's pointless too ask now, you've already been on." I say with a warm smile.
I watch her as she climbs up onto the boat, and sits cross legged infront of us. For the first time I take notice of more than just her eyes. Her black hair is cut shortish, she left it shaggy. Her clothes hung off her frail body, her deep olive skin sunk slightly, in and around alot of her bones. I turn my attention back too her eyes.
"When I was young, my mother used too tell me a story. Most mother's told their child this story. It's about two lovers, they were forbidden, their families natural enemies. One, the last of their kind. The other, the only one of their kind since the beginning. The saviour and evolution of all supernatural beings alike. They ran away together, knowing the world would shun their love. They ran to be with the Unicorns, because they where the only creatures that could understand their love."
She pauses and starts too gaze up at the stars as she continues her story.
"When they arrived at the land of the Unicorns, they where greeted by no Unicorns, no Faeries, no Pixies nor Sprites. What they did find would be a test of their love. One that would make or break them.
"A fox, a very sly and cunning fox. He tried too steal their love, tried too turn the lovers against each other." Sacha turns back too look at us. "My mother always ended the story there, telling me it was up too me to choose what happened too them. Later I found out it ended in death, different people told me different endings. Every ending was usually similar, except one." Sacha seems too drift off into space for a moment. She quickly shakes her head and turns too face us once more.
"So which one do you believe is the right ending?" I ask, my eyes watch her intently, searching for any form of deception, but i find nothing.
"I'd like too think the one different one, I know it sounds soppy but I'm a sucker for a happy ending." She says with a shy smile.
"Nah, I think everybody dreams about that one happy ending. Most will never admit that, but it's true." Corvin says charmingly.
"Dawn's not far off, I'll have too get back. He gets worried when I'm out at night. I'll see you again?" She says softly, Corvin and I nod and smile as she jumps gracefully off the boat.
