It was almost dawn by the time we had docked. All three of us where pretty tired, so we ventured to the closest place we could rent a room, with a dog. It was a small, cosy looking place, with only 4 rooms in total, 2 of wich where available. We quickly paid and went straight to the room, where we slept for the almost the next 15 hours. The sun was just setting when we woke, so instead of continuing we decided to stay another night and continue in the morning. I payed the elderly lady at the front desk for another night, she seemed happy to accomodate us.
"Would you like anything to eat, the kitchen will be closing in an hour or so, so i could get something made for you all." She smiled sweetly as she spoke,
"Yes actually, that would be lovely, any sort of meat for Coop, he's not fussy, and a roast chicken if you've got any?" I asked softly, as to not sound too demanding.
"Yes, i'll even get some mashed spuds, gravy and the rest sent up too dear, you both must be starved, you've slept all day. Now don't you worry, you head off back to your room, and i'll have someone bring it up once it's sorted" I smile softly, thank her and head back up to the room.
"Food's on the way, well once it's cooked, and then we can sleep a little more before setting back off." I say as i lay back on the bed and wrap my arm around Corvin's waist and snuggle up to his back.
"Is staying longer wise though, i don't like the smell of this area, it's like there's only us here." He grumbles with his face in his pillow.
"Well that's because we haven't really walked round the town now have we?" I say giggling quietly against his back,
"You know what i mean," Corvin says as he turns over to look at me. "It feels like we're the only supernatural beings here, it just feels like we're being lulled into a false sense of security." He props his head up on hand and rests his elbow ontop of his pillow, " I mean come on, think about it, why are the owners of this place being so nice to us? Huh they don't know us, we could be murders." I can't help but laugh,
"Corvin, this is what it's like everywhere, if you're terrible to your customers, you're not going to stay in business very long. Plus, i paid more than asking price so we wouldn't be disturbed, due to us sailing an extremely long way. She understood, and i think the extra cash helped alot too, she's just a sweet old lady that runs a pet friendly inn. You don't have to be suspicous of everyone, and, you can't smell others because there aren't really many further north, Glenn told us that. It's the entire reason we're travelling further north." He tries to hide a small smirk, but fails.
"Okay smart ass, i get it, i'm just on edge, you can't blame me. The stuff he told us, it was strange, i don't really know what to think about it." Corvin's face clouds with worry.
"Nothing he said matters my love. There is no way that we are going to abandon our daughter. She will save everyone, and we will be there every step of the way to help her. That's all that matters now. So how about we get changed then wait for food." Corvin kept his face straight, reached over his shoulder, grabbed a pillow and dropped it onto my head.
"No, food can be eaten without changing our clothes, we can get abit more sleep in." I push the pillow off and get up from the bed.
"Fine, but i'm not staying in these clothes, they smell like the boat." I walk over to my bag and pull out a vest top and a pair of deep blue jeans.
"You smell great. Come back over here," he says as he pulls back the cover to try and entice me back into bed.
"I may jump in the shower first, then we set of towards manchester i'll be fresh and ready for a long walk, not smelling of sweat, and all sticky and gross." I say and screw up my face, wich causes Corvin to laugh.
"Fine, you make an unarguable point, so i'll just have to grab a shower after you, but tomorrow night i can't sleep indoors. It's fine if you and Coop want to, but it's a full moon and i don't have a choice about turning then." He says with a low gowl, as he stands, he lets the cover drop to the floor, exposing his body.
"Corvin, you may want to cover up abit, food won't be long and i don't want you giving that poor woman a heart attack." I say before biting my lower lip at the side. He quickly picks up his pants and sits down to put then on.
"Well atleast she'd die happy." He says with a handsome grin on his face. I throw a white t-shirt at him and laugh as i shake my head.
Once I've had a shower and dressed, Corvin jumped into the shower. Coop sat waiting patiently at the door, the smell of food was wafting up from the kitchen, and every now and again the silence was broken by a small huff or soft whine, as his patiences started to wear thin the whines got louder and more drawn out.
As a knock on the door came, Coop jumped up and yapped at the door, tail wagging furiously.
"Coop, come lay down, be patient." He slowing strolled away from the door and sat by the end of the sofa. I opened the door, ready with a £20 note in my hand as a tip, the moment the door opened, Coop started walking back over. "Hey what did i just say."
"He's alright, aslong as he gets along with Doris, shes my helper, she likes to be pushed around on the trollies, so everytime food goes up to rooms, 9 out of 10 times, Doris is there too." A middle aged man said as he wheeled the cart into the room. The moment it stopped, a Pale grey cat emerged from the bottom shelf of the trolly. Coop did not seem keen, he sniffed at her and then walked over to the other end of the sofa.
"Coop's not a fan of cats, but luckily he's not a viscious dog, so Doris should be fine." I say shaking my head at the silly fur ball.
"Oh, that's a shame, Doris seems to like him." He says smiling over at the sofa, I turn and look as I hear Cooper whine slightly, and look towards him with a sympathetic look. Doris rubs herself against the from of him, turns and does it again, it's all Coop can do to keep his nose pointing up in the air to keep her tail out his face. "Why is it he looks scared? I've never seen a dog react that way to Doris before." His smiles changes to a look of confusions as he unloads the plates onto the small table in the corner of the room.
"A few years back, we lived in a rough area, and the stray cats there kind of owned the streets at night. Unfortunately 'somebody' didn't listen when it came to staying in the house at night and he snuck out. I found him hours later, surrounded by cats and they had attacked him, badly. Poor little guy barely survived, but luckily he did, he's never been the same around cats since." I say softly as I hand the man the £20 note.
He looked down and looked amazed,
"Thank you miss, this is so generous of you. You all must be famished so I'll leave you to enjoy the food. Come on Doris, leave the poor boy alone." Cooper looked relieved as the cat stopped rubbing it's head against his neck and ran back towards the trolley.
"We should be thanking you, we didn't think any place would be open to take us when we docked, it's been a long few days." Corvin says as he sits drying his hair with a small towel.
"We're open every hour of everyday for bookings, so please come again, and tell your friends, we could always use the extra few guests every so often." He smiles as he exits the room with the trolley and Doris, closing the door quietly behind him.
I sit at the table and see Coop's eyes watch me intently, his patience returned once more.
"Come on then you silly dog." He ran from the sofa and jumped up onto a chair. As soon as I place a plate of, de-boned, chicken in front of him he starts to demolish it.
"Hey! Leave some for the rest of us." Corvin whines as he joins us at the table. I smile as I watch them both tuck in to their food, sipping my second to last bottle of blood from the boat.
The smell of the food was enticing, much more than usual. Every sip from my bottle almost made me feel queasy. I look to Corvin as soon as I notice they've stopped to look at me.
"Maybe you should try a bite or two, I mean, the baby is half Lycan. Could it really hurt to try?" I gaze at him in surprise, not that he had thought of it, but that I had not.
"I suppose your right." I tear off a piece of chicken, beautifully cooled, so tender, and juicy I can almost taste it already. The moment it touches my tongue it's like my taste buds erupt back to life, like I've tasted nothing before this moment, and I had a hard time believing anything could taste better, but the potatoes and gravy prove me wrong.
They both watch me eat, every so often taking a bite for themselves. Corvin with a look of love on his face and Coop confusion and a little envy as I poor more gravy onto my plate, before I put the gravy boat back on the table I pour abit onto the remaining chicken on Coop's plate. His wagging tail is the only only response I need as he digs in once more.
It has been so long since I have eaten real food, everything tastes so much better than it did before, even the sips of blood seem to taste better now. 'Everything seems strange, but it's a strange situation', I say to myself as I put down my fork and sit back. My eyelids heavy once more, almost too heavy to keep open.
I feel Corvins arm wrap around my shoulders and the other slip under my legs, as he picks me up and carries me to bed. I feel his lips brush against my forehead lightly as my eyes shut fully.
"I'll be back by morning my love, you sleep for now, you've done enough for us." I try to snuggle against his chest but feel him pull away as he puts me down on the bed, causing me to groan. As sleep starts to close in, I feel a small warm furry body come and curl up infront of me. "Take care of her Coop, I'll see you both soon." A small yip comes from Coop before his head lays down on my arm. My mind grows hazy as sleep takes over and I give in to the blackness.
