"And never drink from something that you didn't pour yourself," Mom instructs, unaware that she had already warned me of this just a minute ago.

"Yes, Mom," I sigh, holding the phone to my ear with my shoulder. Sam chuckles, and I roll my eyes at him. We've been standing in the hallway, waiting to leave for 5 minutes now.

"And if you have to turn away from it, get a new one," she says. Sam fidgets with the edge of his orange shirt, the hem brushing above his navel.

"Yes, Mom." We were already late to begin with when Sam couldn't find his skirt and then I spilled water on my shirt. When we finally left the dorm, he shrieked and said that he didn't do his makeup. Mom called while I was waiting for him to finish and she's yet to realize that we really need to get going.

"And just because you and Sam are dating doesn't mean he can do anything that you aren't-" I cut Mom off before she can finish recreating the embarrassing consent talk she gave me when Connor and I started dating.

"Oh my God, Mom. Please," I groan. Light dances across the dingy wall as Sam turns his head. He sways it around, the sparkles on his face reflecting the fluorescents.

"Please drink responsibly!" Mom calls, frantic like she knows I'm trying to hang up. The longer we wait to go to the party, the more likely I'll wimp out and look like a loser in front of Sam.

"I will. Love you. Bye," I say. Laughter laces my voice as I watch Sam make himself dizzy.

"I- okay. Love you!" Before she can remember something else to warn me, I hang up. I know shes just looking out for me, knowing I'm not a party person. But we gotta go,

"Sorry, I told her about the party earlier and she can get kind of... neurotic," I chuckle.

"I get it. My mom thinks I'm staying in tonight and studying. If she knew I was anywhere near a party, all you would be able to hear is very loud and very angry Cantonese."

I laugh and slip my phone into my back pocket. Ready to go?" I ask, locking the door so we can finally leave.

"Yep," he says, pushing himself off of the wall and starting off towards the elevators.

"Do you know who's there yet?" I ask, following close behind him. When Sam told me that the whole group was going to one of Devon's friends Halloween party, I assumed we'd all be going together. That was, until about an hour ago when Sam told me AJ was already there.

"Everyone," he answers.

"Oh. Sorry."

"We're not late or anything. It doesn't matter. Let's just hope that Connor's ready," Sam shrugs, punching in the elevator buttons.

"He said he was waiting outside the building," I say. I think Connor just wanted to get out of his dorm for the night. He has a few kind-of friends, and I asked if they had any plans for Halloween. Apparently they're at the party too, but Connor didn't look too happy about it.
