Today was your brother's birthday. You knew he had quite the liking towards books, therefore, each year you always did your best to buy him something that would pique his interest.
Even if he would never admit it you could tell you let him down each time. Although, this year all you could do was hope for better.
Your hand slid onto the door handle to a small corner bookstore, the air breezed past and gushed a strong wind against your skin. A chill ran up your spine as you walked inside.
The feeling of a pair of eyes being locked onto you couldn't be shook off.
You paced around the store putting deep thought into what he might like. Running a hand through your hair, you let out a breath filled with stress.
"Need any help?" A soothing voice spoke from behind you.
You spun around, pushing your back up against the bookshelves. "I..." You trailed off trying to find the correct words, but this man left you breathless.
You almost couldn't tell if it was his strong scent, or the intense gaze he had on you.
"I'm trying to pick something out for my brother." You admitted, letting out a small laugh afterwards. "What about yourself?" He questioned softly, returning your smile.
"I don't really read." "You probably haven't found the right books." "Maybe you can help with that... after I find a book for my brother?" You replied, anxiously fidgeting with your fingers.
"Of course, how old is he?" "Ah, he's 14." "Right this way." He shrugged his head, signaling you to follow behind. It took you a minute to regain composure and walk behind him to another section of the store.
You saw him carefully remove a book from one of the displays. "Here's one of our new releases." He said, holding the book out for you.
You nodded and grabbed it, swiftly sliding your hand against his. You felt the veins that stuck out above his soft skin and pulled back. Those few seconds left you with butterflies.
Looking down at the book you noticed it had the number 7 on it. "Where's the first one?" You tilted your head in confusion. "Don't worry about that." He replied, leading you to the register.
"You'll have to come back." "Why's that?" "So we can find a book fit for you." He teased, scanning the book and placing it into a paper bag.
"I'll see what I can do..." You paused, glancing down at his name tag. "Joe." You finished off the sentence with a smile. "I hope to see you again soon...?" He gestured for you to finish his sentence this time.
"(Y/N)." You replied, swiping your card and taking the paper bag from his grasp.
