CHAPTER 6 –

“I’ve been observing them.” Adrian said, looking focused on his ham and cheese burger. We were sitting at our now usual table at the back of our school cafeteria. I'll just say that it did take him a while to convince me to come in here again, but I did, and it wasn't as bad as I expected it to be. At least now that he was by my side. A small smile crept onto my face at the thought. The suns reflection bouncing from the pale floors, onto his face, highlighting his structured, masculine facial features. As I looked up, the smile went off my face as my throat went dry just at the sight of him looking so focused and handsome at the same time. He was slowly going to kill me, literally.

“Observing who?” I asked confused at the sudden change of topic, I tried to sound as natural as possible, taking a well-needed, long sip out of my water bottle for my dry throat.

“Them four who else?” He said tilting his head slightly as he referred to Jonah, Vanessa and their sidekicks, Lissa and the other guy, who's name I think is Chris. I chocked on my water, wondering why the hell he was doing that for.

“W-what?W-why??” I said regaining my breath. He scoffed.

“Because they did this to you, why else?” He must have read the shock and surprise in my eyes,

“What? You didn’t think I knew? I’m not stupid you know. I know them type of fighters, they don’t actually fight with any skill at all, they just beat the shit out of you.” He said looking me straight in the eyes. I broke his gaze and stared down at my empty tray with empty wrappers. I guess I was hungry today. I sighed.

“I don’t think you’re stupid, I just didn’t know that’d you’d find out so quickly.” I said trying to avoid his gaze.

“You didn’t fight back did you?”

“No, even if I did, they would’ve just come at me worse.”

I thought of Jonahs words back in the alley way. ‘I’ve got a surprise for you tomorrow’. Today is day three back at this school, and by the looks of it, yesterday he didn’t have the chance to touch me as Adrian was always by my side. I learnt that Adrian is pretty much feared around this school. Not that he has done anything to anyone, people just know he’s a great fighter and choose to stay away from him. I also learned that he does have friends. A group of three guys, Ben, Jack and Graham, I met them yesterday and they all go in my class, he just chooses not to hang out with them though, and I have no idea why.

“Well I guess that’s good then, now have you got any plans for this afternoon?” He asked. Did he even realise that by him just asking me that, my heart jumped out of my chest? Guess not.
