Chapter 10 - (FLASHBACK chapter)
Sitting on the bench in front of my house was little me in a yellow dress, a tiny purple flower in one hand and a little note in the other. The light brown curly locks were slowly falling out of a tight French plait my mother had done in my hair as the wind blew strongly. I had been sitting here for about an hour, doing nothing but staring uncomprehendingly at the two things I was holding so tightly onto. It was a Tuesday afternoon and yesterday had been the saddest day of my life so far. Well I hoped it would be the saddest I would ever have to face. My best friend for six years had left me yesterday. He was there for me for six years. When I had no friends, he was there, when I was upset, he was there, he was my other half, ever since the day we met in the park across the street, he had never left my side.
As my 12 year-old brain thought more and more about the situation, the more ironic it became. I looked up at the park to my left. It was a Monday when we met, and now it was a Monday when he left me. I had myself convinced that he would come back to me on a Monday. I would wait outside every Monday after school on this bench. He will come. Won’t he?
I never saw this coming, yesterday at school everything was fine, or at least I thought it was. Together we walked happily from school, and as usual we went straight to the park after school, to a secret hide out we found together. Only we knew about it, and it felt so special to us. We crept in and he sat down directly in front of me, looking at me seriously. I will never forget the shade of green flecks that outlined his brown eyes. He tapped his fingers on his pants nervously, and I got this feeling in my stomach, I knew something bad would follow. But I never expected this.
“Val,” He said in his cute voice, unable to look me in the eyes.
“What’s wrong?” I asked, genuinely sad that there was something wrong.
“My dad got a job offer, and well, we all have to go.” He now looked up at me, trying to take in my expression.
“Where is it?” I said gulping.
“Far away” He said grabbing onto one of my hands.
“When am I going to see you again Adi, you’re coming back right? You have to come back.” A tear dropped off my cheek rapidly as I came to face with my biggest fear, losing someone I really loved, my best friend.
“Don’t cry Val.” He said with pain in his eyes. "We'll see each other soon, this isn't goodbye"
