"God I'm still so tired," she thought as her alarm blared. "I just want to stay asleep,"
"But if I do then I won't get go out again for another week,"
With that, Maria slowly lifted herself up from the bed, only to fall back down when her left arm gave out.
"Ugh. How am I supposed to walk around like this?"
She inched her way off the bed and into her closet. In the very back, behind a large trunk, was the maid's outfit.
She slipped it on carefully and then made her way to the servants entrance.
Alexander was already there, standing behind some crates of food. Ever since they started the routine a few Sundays ago, it was agreed upon that they shouldn't be seen together at school while she was in the uniform.
"Are you sure you're okay to go?" he asked.
"I'll be alright, and if I'm not, at least I'll be at a hospital,"
He didn't look convinced, but followed her out of the servant's entrance and into the city proper.
Theo was standing in front of the hospital, with Penny holding his hand.
"What happened to your arm?" she asked.
"Shoot, I need to think of a convincing lie,"
"A student at the school lost control of their magic, and I got caught in it,"
"Will you be alright?" Theodore asked.
"I should be," Maria said with a small smile.
"Let's get going now, we have so much to do,"
Everyone followed her into the hospital, and then she was grabbed by Nurse Laurel.
She was the same nurse she met on the first day, and was the only one other than Theodore and Penny who knew about her healing magic. Or "miracles" as they called it.
Nurse Laurel pulled her into a makeshift room where a man with a hole in stomach laid. The doctor was trying to stitch the hole up, but the man's guts kept getting in the way.
"God, I'm already feeling like fainting," she thought.
"Why did you bring her back?" the doctor scoffed.
"You'll see," Nurse Laurel said as Maria stepped closer to the man.
She placed a hand on the hole, and it took every inch of her willpower not to pull it away and gag.
"Heal this man please, heal him heal him heal him,"
Her hand started glowing, and soon the hole followed while the feeling of her stomach being torn open started.
She could feel her skin tearing open and her guts falling out. Blood was pouring down from her lips as she bit it to keep the screams in.
Finally, it was over, the glow from her hand faded away. She started swaying, her eyes became blurry but she fought to keep awake.
"I can't loose all my time here sleeping,"
She was put on a chair and she could faintly hear the doctor and nurse talking.
Just as she was nodding off, someone grabbed her arm and looked her dead in the eyes.
"How did you do that?" the doctor demanded.
"I can't really explain it," she started. "I just think I want to heal them, then I do,"
His eyes told her he didn't believe her, but he let her go.
"I. . .I need to apologize for yelling at you last week. It seems you were telling the truth of this girl's. . .gift,"
"Thank you doctor," Nurse Laurel murmured.
Maria stood up and made her way out of the room but the doctor blocked her path.
"How long will you be staying?" Would you be willing to take work here?"
She shook her head. "I already have a job as a maid, so I will only becoming for a bit each Sunday,"
The doctor frowned. "But you would make much more money here than you would as a maid,"
"True, but I would rather not shout to the whole world about my powers, I only started using them recently,"
The doctor's frown deepened. "Are you sure there is nothing that can make you stay here?"
"No, not right now,"
He sighed. "Fine then. Nurse Laurel, go find someone else for her to heal. I'll check up on the man,"
The nurse grabbed her hand and pulled her into another makeshift room. A woman was laying there, with both legs bandaged up.
"Could you heal her legs? Both her knee capes were slashed in the factory."
"I'll see what I can do,"
Maria put her hand on one of the woman's knees, and she cried out in pain.
"I've never healed two things at once, I'll just stick to one leg for now,"
She felt her right knee start being slashed up and every second she stood on it hurt more than the last.
The pain stopped once the woman's knee healed, but she moved on to the next without pause.
By the time she was done, both her legs were trembling and she was holding onto the bed rail for dear life so she wouldn't fall down.
"Are you alright? You aren't looking well," the nurse asked.
"I'll live," she whispered as her legs gave out and the world turned black.
