The Greeks had a particular way of saying truth, or reality. The word comes from the negated word for forgetfulness, τὰ ἀληθῆ, which is where we get the river Lethe. So essentially, the Greeks understood that reality and truth are found in a lack of forgetting—the act of remembering—or, in memory.
