'Have you heard? We're getting a new principal!' Heidi beamed. I stared at her. 'I don't know if you're excited.' I joked. She gave me an are-you-serious look. 'Duh! And turns out he is wayyyy better than that last dork.' She said. I laughed. I scrolled around on my phone and my heart suddenly beat rapidly. I had 206 missed messages and 32 missed calls.
Ben! You haven't come to school in 3 months! Ben! You okay? Ben... The texts seemed endless. 'I thought James wasn't on my contact list anymore!' I hissed. Heidi told me to pass her my phone. When I gave it to her, she typed back. Shut up. I protested. 'Hey! That's my friend you're talking to!' Heidi looked like she couldn't care less. 'We're spies now Ben. You can't show sympathy for your friend.' Heidi rolled her eyes. 'That's right.' Said a voice. Heidi and I jumped. It was Tristan, who changed a lot from the last time I met him. 'You can't trust others. Now come on. We're meeting the new principal.' He muttered. We stood up and followed him like pets. We arrived to the office and the new principal smiled. 'Ah! You must be Mr Hall and Miss Markham. Ah, I am Mr Townsend, your new headmaster.' He said with satisfaction. I grinned. 'Nice to meet you sir.'
'The pleasure's all mine. Now I am rather busy and you have classes to attend. Tut tut, off you go!' And at that, we were kicked out.
I got to say I rather got better at my spy skills. I was a quick learner but I still sucked at Self Defense. 'Benjamin Hall, let's see watcha got.' Said Professor Smith, she was very different to Professor Riot. For starters, she gave us a harsh punishment of 3 hour practice if we didn't do something right. I tried to fight the horrifying robot in front of me. It whacked me off my butt. I groaned. Everyone laughed. Professor Smith shook her head, like she was expecting this. 'Professor just-'
'I know what you're gonna say Percy and no, you will not get 3 hours of practice.'
At that, my eyes widened in surprise. I was celebrating inside but remained stern. 'W-why?' Professor Smith turned around and eyed me with her hawk eyes. 'Do you want the three hours, Benjamin?'
'No! It's just. How come?'
Professor sighed. 'Are you that curious, Benjamin?' She waited before she continued.'It's because you're getting activated today. And you could just learn your self defence there. I gave up on teaching you.' Professor Smith claimed. I stopped walking after her and stood there in shock. I'm getting activated... again?
For the rest of the day, I was very anxious about the mission. Two months ago, an enemy agent tried to shove me off the Harbour Bridge. I gulped. I heard footsteps coming my way and a strong sense of lavender perfume, which meant one thing. Heidi.
What I saw was breathtaking.
Unlike I saw her exactly three hours, seven minutes ago, Heidi Markham, my best friend at Drukora Spy Academy, had dyed her dark brown hair to a hazel colour which looked beautiful. Not only that, she now put on sea green contacts, covering her light brown eyes. She looked beautiful without them, but seriously she was breathtaking. She tied her hair in a white scrunchie and ran towards me. 'Hey Ben? How do I look?'
'Great.' I said truthfully. Heidi blushed. 'So busy lately?' She asked. I sighed. 'I'm being activated on another mission.' I told her. 'What?!' Heidi said. 'Again?! You're so lucky! I wish I was allowed to be activated again. I had err- not the best experience in the last one.' I knew exactly what she was talking about, last year, my best friend at Drukora, Heidi, witnessed her crush's death. That nightmare would sink in me as he died saving me and I just left him. 'If I am getting activated with Ariarne, I could ask her if you could join.'
'The answer's no.' Interrupted a voice. I jumped, startled. This was natural for Ariarne, the best spy in training, to do. I swear she does it for amusement. 'Hi Ariarne-'
I couldn't finish that sentence as my jaw flung open.
Ariarne was naturally beautiful and talented, however today, it seemed as if her beauty tripled. Ariarne always wore spy clothes that camouflage with her surroundings but today she looked flawless. Her raven hair was in perfect braids and she was in a blue dress that matched her eyes. She had shining white heels on and had a light touch of makeup. Think of the most beautiful actor or actress, Ariarne was double their beauty. I forgot how to speak. 'Gaa...' Ariarne snorted. She looked coldly at every boy who laid eyes on her around the room and snarled. 'Don't you have work to do?! How can you consider yourselves spies?'
And at that, everyone rushed out of the room. Heidi huffed in annoyance both by Ariarne catching everyone's attention and not being able to go on the mission. 'When I say no, it's no. Ben, quit staring, it's creeping me out.' Ariarne hissed. At least she didn't yell at me like she did to the others, I didn't want to see angry Ariarne, so I slapped myself to focus. 'Good. Get some sleep Ben. Our mission starts at three in the morning.'
'Don't I have to pack?'
'No. Goodnight.'
I got to say, I slept at 9:07, so I had a few hours to sleep. And yet, I felt like I only slept for a minute. I woke up by the sound of my window opening. It was Ariarne. 'Hurry up and change, idiot.' She said thinking I was the dumbest person on earth. She waited outside as I changed. I carefully jumped out of my window, screaming silently. 'Ariarne, what are we doing-'
'Shhhh!'
'I-'
'What part of shhhh do you not understand? We're stalking our new principal because he is cousins with Cassius.'
'What?!'
'Shhhh!'
We walked past some buildings and climbed in through a vent. There was a little hole, through to the principal's dorm. His room was nicely made and was twice the size of my dorm. He snoozed lightly. 'He's sleeping. Search his office now.' Ariarne mouthed. I cautiously jumped though the hole and began opening his drawers while Ariarne hacked into his computer.
We stayed there for an hour, but had found nothing.
'We'll try this again tomorrow Hall, go in and get some sleep.' Ariarne said. I obeyed and we walked back to the dorms. We entered and I accidentally brushed my hand against hers. I blushed, Ariarne seemed to ignore this. I probably blushed at the wrong time because what I saw was surprising.
Heidi was standing outside of the elevator and stared at our hands. Ariarne rolled her eyes, she apparently didn't take this romantically, but as an accident. I instantly moved my hand. Heidi eyed us suspiciously. 'What are you doing?'
'I could ask you the same thing.' Ariarne sighed. 'Getting some water. So much for going on a mission!' She hissed. 'You were on a date!' She said. For a second, I thought I heart the slightest bit of jealousy in her voice, but thought that was because of my tired and drowsiness. 'Goodnight guys.' I said as I walked past an annoyed Heidi and entered the elevator.
