{A/N: this is a potential fic I want to write in the future. Let me know if you're interested in it being continued.}
Draco has come to accept Potter's infuriating presence. Or at least, he tells himself it's still infuriating. Draco Malfoy does not spend his study time hoping that Harry Potter will claim the once always empty seat right next to him. He most certainly doesn't always put his potions homework off as the last thing to complete just in case Harry has questions. That's preposterous.
Despite these claims Draco reminded himself of every morning, the corners of his mouth betrayed him in a small smile as Harry rushed in, dramatically collapsing next to him. The weight of his body hitting the chair so heavily sent it moving a lot closer to Draco than it needed to be, but Harry didn't bother moving it.
Draco tsked at Harry playfully.
"You're late Potter", he chided.
"Sorry", Harry panted. "I brought you an apple square though. Forgive me?"
"I suppose just this once. Do you have any potions questions? I was just about to get started", Draco said, looking down as he grabbed the apple square to hide his smile.
"So you finally admit that you wait for me huh?", Harry teased.
"I wait for no one Potter, you should know that", Draco chided. "I may however be persuaded to work through things more slowly."
Harry just smiled up at Draco, head leaning on his hand. Draco hated how his heart fluttered at the sight.
"Let's get started, Potter. My time is precious."
"And so are you", Harry mentally added.
Harry bit his lip, keeping his comment in. He was so tired, he hadn't been sleeping well at all, and it was starting to show.
Draco was explaining something to him, and Harry was staring at him intently, trying to absorb everything he was saying.
"Potter, get me some water will you?"
Harry could tell Draco had noticed his lack of teasing, and was asking for water to give Harry an excuse to take a walk.
"Only because I like you Malfoy."
Harry smiled widely as he noticed Draco's small smile before he quickly removed it. He knew Draco loved his company really, even if he would never admit it. It made Harry happy, as he was quite fond of the other man himself.
Many things had changed in Harry's life, but his relationship with Malfoy had remained relatively constant. They were on friendly enough terms, no longer enemies, but their banter had remained. It was honestly what kept Harry at Hogwarts when he debated leaving the first week of 8th year.
Harry felt better after getting some water, having splashed some on his face. Draco wished he hadn't done that, as there was still water in Harry's eyelashes, making his eyes even more vibrant.
They continued on with potions, Draco being much more forgiving and helpful than he normally would be. He knew Harry needed a break, and he supposed just this once he could be the one to give it to him.
Once they finished the potions work, Harry settled into History of Magic work, which was a mistake honestly. As he outlined the textbook, his eyes were slowly closing, head drooping.
Draco had to stop himself from jumping as he felt something hit his shoulder. As he looked down, he froze at the sight of Potter sleeping peacefully on his shoulder.
"What the actual hell?", he thought, eyes wide in surprise.
"Potter?", he whispers gently.
It was the softest he had ever spoken to the other man, and if Harry had been awake to hear it, his crush on Draco only would've grown.
Sighing deeply, Draco allowed Potter to sleep on his shoulder, carefully pulling off his glasses and placing them on the table. Draco did his best to continue his work, but Potter was being too distracting. His soft breaths were landing on Draco's cheek, and honestly Draco had never seen the other man so relaxed. He smiled often, but it never quite reached his eyes. Not unless he was teasing Draco of course.
Shaking the thoughts from his head, Draco quickly worked through the rest of his assignments. Feeling generous, he looked over what Potter had brought with him to do, and he was shocked at the high quality of the work. Some of his assignments were even better than Draco's!
Potter had always received his assignments back face down, and gave the teachers his patented lopsided grin. There was so much more to Potter than met the eye, and Draco was more determined than ever to scratch the surface, and crack the code that was Harry James Potter.
