SIMON'S
Avery Christa Mendoza. eysimendoza. Damn. It was her all along. I sat across the book signing area in a restaurant called 'Nanyang'. Vinny was in line. Sandro is busy ordering us food in the counter. I just looked at Avery. It has been four years since Oxford.
She has gained curves. Her hair was longer and her face became more mature. Shhe was wearing a white turtleneck sweater and a maong jumpsuit. Her shoes were black ankle boots. She is still pretty.
"Ay," I heard Sandro mutter beside me. "It's her nga."
I frowned at my brother. "You knew?"
He shrugged his shoulders. "I wasn't sure okay? I had a hunch but I wasn't hundred percent sure."
I ignored him and breathed. "I am still gonna sue her."
Sandro laughed. "You're no fun little brother. Parang wala kayong pinagsamahan." He teased.
I made a face. "Shut up Sandro. Why are you here anyway? Nasa La Trinidad ang strawberries."
"I just want to see the new SM Baguio." He responded.
"Nakita mo na. Nalibot natin kanina so go away." Pagtaboy ko.
"Elsa?" He mimicked.
"Shut up." I said, rolling my eyes.
He chuckled. "So do you still like her?"
"What the hell?"
My brother rolled his eyes. "Shut up. You obviously like her before. Your eyes say it all back in Oxford."
Before I could say anything, the waiter came and gave us our food. I looked at my older brother smelling his drink.
"You are really creeping me out." I said, shaking my head.
"What?"
I pointed at his drink. "That. Whoever possessed you to exchange your favorite tea to drink coffee."
"It's tea with coffee. It's in their menu. Shut up Simon and worry about your woman." He retorted.
I widened my eyes. "What the hell Sandro?"
"Your mouth may be denying it but your eyes do not lie Simon. You were freaking staring at her when I was in the counter. Creepy!"
"Hey!" I debated.
"Itadakimasu." He ignored me.
Great. Now he thinks I have a thing for Avery. Terrific.
"Hey guys! I invited Avery!" Vinny suddenly emerged from behind. Sandro choked on the chicken he was eating.
I turned around to Vinny with furrowed eyebrows. Who the hell invites a stranger. No one but Vinny.
"Why?" I asked.
"We're friends." He chirped.
I rolled my eyes. "Yeah right."
"Did you know she once studied in Oxford Brookes?" He said like we were asking for trivia.
Sandro cleared his throat and raised his hands. "Vinny," Our younger brother turned to him. "That author you are friends with actually-"
"Is your ex-girlfriend?!" He exclaimed.
Sandro made a face. "She's not my fucking type!"
"A former friends with benefits?" Vinny guessed. I only rolled my eyes.
"Where are you getting those ideas from?" Sandro asked, his eyebrows furrowed.
"Probably in my creative mind." Vinny boasted.
