SIMON

I woke up in Avery's bed from last night. I blinked from the duvet, my hands trying to search for Avery's body but she wasn't on the side where she laid last night. I sat on the bed, leaning on the headboard and saw Avery coming out from the bathroom. Her apartment is small so you can see the kitchen and living room from the bed itself. It was small but cozy.

She did not notice me waking up. Instead, she went back in the kitchen area while tying up her hair and checked the pan. Oh she is beautiful. I watched her move in the kitchen. I stared at her frowning face. Happy face and sour face. It was such a memory to remember.

"What are you cooking?" I asked from the bed, deciding to speak.

She looked at me with a huge smile on her face. "Go wash your face. We'll eat in a minute now." She urged.

I chuckled and obliged to her command. I washed my face and brush my tooth using hers. I didn't have any so might as well use hers. I was wiping my face when my attention turned to the trash bin.  The three packets of condom made me laugh and shake my head. Insatiable. That's how I define what happened last night.

Avery saying those two words were the last straw. How I have missed her warmth and sweet nothings.

"Na-flush ka na ba sa bowl?!" I heard Avery from outside. Silly girl.

I walked out the bathroom and went to the small dining table across the kitchen. She was sitting down on the chair with a smile painted on her face.

"Wow." I breathed as I saw what she cooked. Bolognese pasta.

"Tikman mo kung papasa sa panlasa mo."

I chuckled. "Why? Scared you are not a wife material?" I teased.

She widened her eyes. "Luh. I am not even thinking about that." She muttered.

"I was kidding," I took a bite on the pasta while looking at her. "Pwede na." I told her.

Avery's eyes squinted. "Paanong pwede na?"

I shrugged my shoulders. "Pagtiisan," She leaned and took my plate. "Hey! I was kidding. It's good. It's delicious!" I exclaimed, taking the plate back.

"Sure ka?" She pouted.

I kissed her lips. "Yes AC."

She blinked and let go of the plate then sat back on her chair. "Nangugulat." She muttered.

"Let's eat?"

"Coffee mo." She mumbled and poured my coffee from the french press on the mug beside my plate.

"Thanks Avery."

She smiled.

And just like that, it was a blissful morning. I couldn't ask for more. She's here now. It was all that matters.

We cuddled after breakfast and watched her favorite TV Series- Teen Wolf. She stands up and jump with muffled scream whenever she is kilig. She looked cute.

At lunch we went out. We sat in that wooden bench at the upper session road by the sidewalk. We just sat there, talking and laughing about silly little things.

"I wasn't able to finish college." She sighed.

I looked at her. "You can finish your degree now," I suggested. "Do you need money?" I asked.

"Please don't tell me you will pay for my tuition because I would never let you do that Simon," She eyed me. "And it's not money. They gave me my dad's insurance so money is something not to be worried about."

"Why then?"

"I just didn't know what to do next after losing my family in a blink of an eye. Liam, the guy yesterday was my childhood friend. He was there that time and maybe his presence reciprocated whatever loneliness I was feeling that time. Kumbaga, nag-settle ako sa isang bagay na hindi ako sigurado para lang madama na hindi ako nag-iisa."

I was like that too. Being a middle child is really something. And that thoughy alone made me settle for temporary happiness or things jist to fill the gap.

I smiled at her. "I'm here now Avery. And Vinny too since he is your friend. You can befriend Sandro but with limitations because he is what he is." I said, rolling my eyes.

Avery laughed. "That reminds me, when I left your apartment, there was a blonde girl who snuck out of his room ahead of me."

"What the hell tapos I slept there after he left!" I exclaimed.

She giggled. "Why? Wala ka bang naamoy na something?"

I made a face. "Let's not talk about Sandro's sex life shall we? And you left me that morning. I woke up in an empty bed. Your scent was everywhere in the room especially in my pillows and blanket."

"I'll make it up to you." She giggled. I kissed her forehead.

We walked down the nearest Jollibee to eat lunch right after. We both took a photo, it was our first photo together after four years. Sandro took a photo of us back in Oxford at the bar. It was still on my phone and I never deleted it.

"Kailan tayo magpapa- Ilocos Norte?" She asked after we ate.

I blinked. "You are coming with me?"

Her face fell. "Kung gusto mo lang naman." She muttered silently.

"Of course I would love to have you there. Are you ready to meet my family?" I asked.

Her eyes widened. "Hindi pa!"

"Where would you stay then?" I asked.

She bit her lips. "Baka may alam ka. Hehe."

I sighed. "Fine. I will ask Sandro about his apartment in Laoag."

Sandro invested into condominium and some land property. He used the money he got from his part time job back in Oxford. He was qualified to get married if I were to asked. He's enjoying being a bachelor too much.

"Eh ikaw may na invest ka na ba sa sahod mo?" She asked.

"I have a land property in Ilocos Norte. I still don't know what to do with it though." I told her.

"Ay okay lang yan. Tumataas naman ang value ng lupa habang tumatagal.  Ako Stock market ko lang nilagay iyong akin. " She mumbled.

I smiled. "It's a good investment if you know what to buy and what not to buy. I'll teach you some other time."

Her eyes twinkled and smiled. "Thank you Joseph Simon."

Yes. Avery completes my day. I am going to treasure the now that we have instead of dwelling on before. Well, except for my memories of her back in Oxford which is in my USB drive and laptop in a folder entitled AC.
