In the morning, Meredith walked into the lecture hall. She looked at Mycroft who was sitting with his roommate Charlie. Mycroft looked at her briefly then looked away. She smirked as she went and sat a few rows ahead of him, just where he could see her. As the professor went on teaching, she looked behind, hoping to catch him staring at her but he was too busy taking notes. She did catch his roommate, Charlie smiling at her.
Charlie nudged his best friend, 'Myc, you see that girl over there?' he asked pointing in Meredith's direction. Mycroft looked up from his book and then looked at Meredith with a stony glare. Charlie grinned at him, 'I'm going to marry her one day' he announced to his best friend and continued to admire his dream girl.
Meredith forced a smile and looked away in dismay that the man she was interested in wasn't even looking at her. After the lecture was over, she stayed back, hoping he would come up to her and ask her out, but Mycroft was the first one to leave. He refused to look at her even in the hallway.
Later, in a library, Mycroft was sitting, studying with Meredith sitting across from him. The library was mostly empty, except for the librarian, her assistant, and a few students. Meredith had her reading open in front of her but she would much rather make Mycroft Holmes uncomfortable by staring at him.
Mycroft sighed without looking up, 'You're staring' he whispered.
Meredith couldn't care less about the library rules, 'Really? Did you finally notice? I have been trying to flirt with you for the past month. Nothing works on you. You're a fucking robot' she said in her normal voice, which could be considered yelling since they were in a library.
Mycroft shook his head and stood up, 'Oh, for heaven's sake, stop. You're embarrassing yourself' he said and walked away to an empty aisle in the library.
Meredith pursed her lips angrily and followed him, 'No. Today, I'm going to make it clear. What the hell is wrong with you? A girl is giving you her attention and you're ignoring her? Every time I look at you, you have that big pointy nose of yours buried in a book. What will it take to get your attention? Should I turn into a book? Print the fucking constitution on my forehead. Oh, I know what I should do, I should...' she rambled on.
Frustrated by her lashing out, Mycroft grabbed her neck and crashed his lips on hers. Meredith's eyes went wide in shock then she wrapped her arms around his neck, running her fingers through his dark hair. She closed her eyes and kissed back passionately for a minute before they pulled apart to catch their breath. Mycroft looked at her and exhaled, shaking his head, 'Thought that might shut you up' he muttered and walked away. Meredith looked at his back with a coy smile as he walked away.
.......
In the morning, Meredith was having breakfast with her parents. Ever since Meredith moved back in with Mycroft, Iris had a hard time getting hold of her daughter. At least her husband got to see their daughter in the office, but Iris didn't have that. And she missed having their daughter around.
Iris looked at her daughter pensively. She looked miserable. Her face was pale, her eyes red with sleep deprivation and she was lazily picking at her food, 'Are you okay?' Iris asked.
Meredith sighed and nodded, 'I'm fine' she said and forced a piece of toast into her mouth.
Iris raised an eyebrow, 'You sure you want to stick to 'I'm fine', while you look like death?' she chuckled softly.
Meredith glared at her mother, not pleased that she was finding her situation amusing, 'I haven't been able to sleep for days. No matter how low I set the thermostat I still wake up looking like I ran a marathon the previous night. And Mycroft wouldn't let me set the thermostat any lower. How cold can someone be? The man sleeps with two blankets, why can't he just toss a third one in there' she ranted.
