Lunch time arrived and I was not in the mood to eat. I slumped down into one of the horridly hard chairs and winced as my sharp spine hit the surface. I pulled my back up onto the table and rested my head upon it.
Lacey and Aaron followed, as did Harvey, who sat in the chair beside me.
"Are you okay Dylan?" Lacey asked in concern.
"Yes, I'm fine thanks, just tired." She nodded but I could see her disbelief in my answer. They all began to eat their pack lunches. I turned my head over to look out the window, onto the fields. I wish I was a tree or some sort of small plant. I wouldn't have to deal with sadness, I could just sit and flow in the cool wind. My daydreams wondered into space as the time went by so fast
"Dylan you haven't eaten anything, do you want something?" Harvey asked, also concerned. I gradually shook my head and smiled a little, thanking him. He gave me a small smile. He had never experienced me being sad, I could tell he was a little lost and didn't know what to do or how to help. But at the moment, I didn't want any help.
The bell rang.
"Come on Dylan, we have English," Harvey said down to me. I pushed myself out of my seat and let out a deep sigh. We made our way to our lesson and sat in our spaces.
"Today class, we are looking at the stageplay 'An Inspector Calls'. You would have done this in earlier years but today we are looking at specific links. The main aspect we are studying is money. Can anyone tell me if they recognize any links of money in the play?" She asked us all. The class was silent as nobody offered an answer.
I shot my hand up.
"Yes Dylan?"
"Well Miss, Mr Birling owned a banking company right? Run by his family, he expected both of his children to join his company once they were more grown up. He cared a lot about his money. He sacked Eva because she asked for a higher wage. Onto Sheila, when Eva snickered at her in the shop, Sheila threatened to get her parents to cancel their accounts with the shop; using her family's power as an advantage. Gerald on the other hand, used money for sex. He gave 'Daisy' everything that she wanted so he could have a little bit of company. And Eric, he used money to buy 'Daisy' out of his life when she fell pregnant with his baby. When Mr Birling discovered her pregnancy, he was more bothered about the fact that Eric had stolen money from his office for Daisy. They all have some sort of link to money really." I shrugged and sat down. The whole class stared at me, possibly wondering why I had been so into the stageplay when we were learning it. I looked over to Harvey which had his eyes captivated on me, he smiled, as if he was proud of me.
"Well Dylan, thats extrordinary, you practically just did our lesson for us, thank you." She said, surprised. I felt good after that. I needed to let everything inside me out.
The lesson went on fast until the last bell rang. I grabbed my stuff and waited for Harvey. He walked out and stood infront of me, raising his eyebrow.
"What?" I asked, confused.
"I never knew you were such an expert at stageplay." I blushed a little and looked down. He took my chin and tilted it up, gently kissing my sore lips. I smiled. He could make anything better.
We headed out of the schools front doors and took a slow walk back to mine.
"So are you okay now?" Harvey asked.
"I feel a lot better than I did this morning."
"Good."
We babbled on a little until we reached my house. I spun around to face him. He cupped my face in his hands, as I placed my hands on his chest, his lips slowly captured mine.
"Thank you for today and being patient with my dark moods," I chuckled out.
"Anything for you, I'll talk to you later." I nodded and walked to my front door.
I pushed it open and threw my bag down on the stairs. What is that smell?
"Mom?" I shouted, wondering where she was. She's usually here when I get home. I went into the kitchen, seeing if she was there. No sign. Neither in the front room. I started to get a bit worried. I headed upstairs and the smell got stronger.
I pushed the bathroom door open. My eyes widened and my heart stopped. I dropped down beside the bathtub and shook my heartless mother. Her skin was stained with crimson blood and my shirt stained with tears. I moaned for my mother to awaken. But I knew she wouldn't.
I abruptly got up, not even steadying myself. I ran downstairs out the door. Tears flying down my cheeks like rain on the window. My breathing had got ruptured and my body was cold. I tripped over the step but got up and chased after Harvey.
I could see him but he couldn't see me. I screamed his name. Again and again. Not knowing if he could hear me over my loud cries. I fell down to my knees and screamed until my vocal chords were torn. I saw a figure running towards me but my eyes were so blurred with tears, I had no idea who it was.
And then it all went black.
