"Sorry about your shirt," Daisy laughed, referencing the make up smeared on Neville's shirt.
"Don't worry, nothing I can't fix." Neville located his wand in his cloak pocket and attempted to abolish the stain. He was unsuccessful, instead turning it different colours. Daisy laughed and she brandished her own wand and cleared the shirt. To do so, she had to step closer to him and his natural scent of vanilla and baby powder, combined with his sharp, traditional aftershave, filled her nose. It brought back an abundance of memories where she was at her happiest. The smell triggered them because Neville was part of every single one of them.
"Thanks," chuckled Neville, snapping Daisy out of her nostalgia trip. The combination of the embarrassment from not being able to complete a simple spell, and the rush of adrenaline in his body from Daisy being so close to him, turned his face warm despite the cold. He cleared his throat, desperate to find something to say to break the silence. "Are you and Dean going to be okay?"
He watched her as she shrugged. "Have we ever been okay?"
"What's that supposed to mean?" He pressed quietly. "Aren't you happy with him?"
"No. But will I ever be happy with anyone?"
Neville's heart soared when she admitted she wasn't happy with Dean and he hated that. He hated that so much. "Of course you will. What were you and him even fighting about anyway?"
"You heard us, don't pretend like you don't know."
A pause. "Why did he think me and you were...you know?"
"In looooove," Daisy sang, wiggling her penciled brows and winking. They both laughed.
"Yes. Why did he think that?" Neville still wouldn't say the word. Love.
Another shrug. "Dunno. He's just jealous clearly." Daisy hesitated a moment. She wanted to know what happened with him and Vivienne. Were them two an item now? She had no idea how to bring it up. She opened her mouth, hoping the words would just topple out and form a sentence that would receive the answer she wanted.
"Hey look! It's a panda!" cheered a voice. It was Velma, pointing in awe at Daisy. Veronica, Vivienne, Draco and a plethora of other jeering Slytherins approached the duo. Velma was referencing the smudged make up around Daisy's eyes and she quickly waved her wand to fix her make up.
"Oh look it's the stupidest person I've ever met," Daisy retorted. She was not going to keep calm. These were the people who treat her sister like dirt. And they were still doing it.
"Where?" Velma looked around desperately, causing Daisy and Neville to giggle. Veronica, clearly embarrassed by her friend's lack of brain cells, pushed her out of the way. With one hand on her hip, she studied Daisy. "Aw have we been crying over your sister, have we?' she cooed. Her sickly sweet tone made Daisy's skin crawl. Neville caught Vivienne's eyes and they both looked away quickly.
"No actually, Neville actually just said something really mean to me," Daisy jested, pantomiming fake crying and suddenly stopping.
"Ooo what did he say?" asked Velma, who appeared back by Veronica's side like a pet owl.
Veronica rolled her eyes and shoved her back out of the way. Draco stepped up, a malicious smirk spread across his pale face.
"Mummy and daddy won't be pleased to hear that, will they Neville?" Draco drawled. "Oh yes, that's right they don't remember you."
Daisy gasped and watched Neville hunch over. The Slytherins erupted in laughter. Malfoy could see his words had touched a nerve with Neville and it gave him the thrill to continue. "How are they doing, by the way?"
