Flashback (Jade's POV)
We all lined up in the field at the ass crack of dawn, yawning and drowsy.
"WELCOME TO BOOT CAMP!" The drill sergeant yelled.
I winced, wondering why in the hell she was yelling and we were all right here. Plus, I'd just been snatched from sleep, so I was a bit agitated. She must've seen my face, because she stepped right up to me.
"AM I TOO LOUD FOR YOU, PRINCESS?!" She yelled in my face, causing me to close my eyes.
"No, drill sergeant." I replied, opening my eyes, holding my head up and sticking my chest out, hoping she'd leave me alone.
"WHATS YOUR NAME?!" She asked.
"Jade." I replied and I heard everyone laugh and snicker.
"QUIET!" She yelled at everyone. "LAST NAME, RECRUIT!"
"Oh. Uhh, Thirlwall." I replied.
"I CAN'T HEAR YOU!" She yelled.
"THIRLWALL!" I yelled, still trying not to fold, even though her yelling was giving me anxiety.
Why am I here again?
"I SUGGEST YOU TIGHTEN UP, THIRLWALL! YOU'VE GOT A LONG WAY TO GO!" She yelled in my face and then continued walking down the line. "THIS IS YOUR INTRODUCTION TO ARMY SERVICE, AND WHERE YOU WILL LEARN THE TRADITIONS, TACTICS, AND METHODS OF BECOMING A SOLDIER! YOU'LL LEARN HOW TO WORK AS A MEMBER OF A TEAM TO ACCOMPLISH TASKS. YOU'LL LEARN DISCIPLINE INCLUDING PROPER DRESS, MARCHING, AND GROOMING STANDARDS. MOST IMPORTANTLY YOU'LL BE INSTILLED WITH THE SEVEN CORE ARMY VALUES AND THE SOLDIER'S CREED! ANY QUESTIONS?!"
"Do we have to wake up this early EVERY morning?" I glanced down the line and at a slim blonde girl, speaking from all the way at the other end.
The drill sergeant couldn't get to her fast enough.
"YES YOU DO! IS THERE A PROBLEM, RECRUIT?!" She yelled.
"No, drill sergeant." The blonde sighed.
"NAME?" The drill sergeant yelled.
"EDWARDS, DRILL SERGEANT!" The blonde yelled. I rolled my eyes. Something about her gave me 'suck up' vibes.
"THIRLWALL AND EDWARDS!" The drill sergeant stepped back and we stepped forward with our hands at our sides. "LET'S SEE IF YOUR BODIES ARE AS STRONG AS YOUR MOUTHS! DROP AND GIVE ME FIVE!"
