They met twelve years ago, she originally joined the team because Unit Chief Erin wanted to push Section special agent Arron Hotchner out; but all that changed in time when we got closer as friends and family. Emily was the type of girl who didn't need you she wanted you. She was different in every kind of way. Emily is described as a nerd, she feels she can't hold down a guy because they are scared away either by the job or her nerdiness. But that's what pulled him towards her, he was attracted to her corky weird nerdy but sexy persona she portrayed. She was different from other girls he'd been with in the past and that's what intrigued him.  he knew in that moment when they connected over Kurt Vonnegut that he had to get the girl. 

Flashback:  

Derek : Good morning, Emily. Had a good weekend?

Emily: Yeah. No. Yes.

Derek: [giggles] Oh, I've been there.

Emily: No, it wasn't... I don't want to get into it.

Derek: No problem.

Emily: It... it just feels weird for me to talk about my personal life here, you know? I don't really know all you guys that well yet.

Derek: I totally get that.

he began to walk away

Emily: [loud] I think I totally screwed up this date.

Derek: [returns] Okay, what happened?

Emily: You have to understand: I am a nerd, like seriously. And I can fool people, days, weeks even but sooner or later, I blow my cover and I say something so geeky and then he doesn't respond and I lose all confidence.

Derek: What did you say?

Emily: "Kilgore Trout."

Derek: Guy has a problem with Kurt Vonnegut?

Emily: You know Kilgore Trout?

Derek: I read "Slaughterhouse Five" when I was 12. It blew my mind. Seriously, I could not get enough, so I just kept going and read them all.

Emily: Yeah, yeah. Me, too. What's your favorite?

Derek: Oh, "Modern Knight."

Emily: The one about the American spy.

Derek: Who pretends to be a Nazi.

Emily: "You are who you pretend to be."

Derek: "So be careful who you pretend to be."

Emily: Oh my God! I can't believe you're a Vonnegut fan. You just made my day!

Derek: Anytime.

that was 12 years ago and look at where they are now. 

Derek Morgan is ready to have Emily as his forever, he is finally going to pop the question to his beloved Emily who he has been in love with for the past 12 years now and coming. 

Derek's Pov 

Emily, baby are you ready we have to be at Rossi's at Seven its already Six.

I hope she says yes, that all I want out of tonight for her to say yes. pls god make her say yes. 

god I'm so nervous right now and if mama heard me saying your name in vain right now id probably get a smack to the head but my knees feel weak and I'm shaking more than ever before and I've faced hard cold criminals daily. but I'm not prepared for a no from her.
